my 98z vs a 99+ stang GT

What does it take for the newer stangs to take me with my mods I'll have 3.73's by this time to and the nittos

he said he has intake 4.10's and is getting cams never heard of getting cams for a stang but i know nothing about the newer ones and some other little stuff

should i worry i don't like to race or talk up my car if i think i don't have a chance

hes gonna have to buy every bolt on he can to TRY to run with you. Only way I see him beating you with anything short of forced induction or nitrous is him outdriving you.

Well with 4.10's and a bigger cam, he might hang with you. Stock, no way you'll kill him, but with what you say he has, he has a chance.

With HOT Nittos, stall and your new gears you should waste him out of the hole, assuming he is on street tires. Is he a 5-speed? You should easily out top end him with his limited mods, either way. Intake and cams don't do much at all on a stock 4.6. His 4.10s should knock off .2 or .3 in the 1/4 if he can drive with them. With a good launch I don't think you have much to worry about.

Steve,
Actually intake and cams do net quite good gains, however, my experience is only with the blown side. Good cams like the ones I'll be running soon I've seen 60+ hp with and not uncommon at all. Just an FYI.

your higher stall wont do much without proper traction. If youre racing on the street with regular street tires then the stock TC should be sufficient

Thats the beauty of forced induction. You get ALOT bigger gains for less money. But its true, the 2V 4.6 is NOT a N/A monster by anymeans.

Yeah, but a blown application reacts a lot different to smaller mods than a n/a one. www.andersonfordmotorsport.com did ALL the bolt ons to an engine like mine and only gained 100 rwhp. Look under their project cars. They did a short block with lighter balanced internals, seriously ported heads, big cams, full intake, full exhaust, pulleys, etc. etc. A blower or nitrous is a lot better option for these 4.6s.

Agreed-the motor is simply too small to compete with even a bolt on LS1.
First mods should be a blower and gears.

i think head flow are what really restricts the 4.6 The LS1 isnt a monster by any means, actually i would say its pretty mild considerin the power it puts out stock or with bolt ons........mild but still enough to kill a lot of street cars.

There are bolton guys putting out around 380rwhp on LS1s. There is even cammed LS1s putting out 450rwhp with STOCK untouched heads! Heck even the 382 LSx strokers are putting out over 500rwhp and drive friendly on the street for daily driving duty. I'd say its a monster of a engine for modern day FI.

What is the most rwhp from a heads, cam, intake, exhaust, LS1 with the stock shortblock? Also street legal and smog legal. I would think about 450-500 rwhp.

I'd like to see this "bolt on" 380rwhp LS1 because that's a little hard for me to believe.
