Mustangs can be fast...

This isn't exactly a kill story, but if my wife hadn't been in the car, it would have been.

A couple weekends ago I was in the Detroit area for a wedding. One the way home, I was on 696 in the Camaro with my wife asleep in the passenger seat. The cruise control is set at 70.

I notice a white SN95 Mustang in my rearview, coming up behind me. He catches up and matches my speed in the next lane over. I look over - 4.6L fender badges indicate that it's a '96-98. I couldn't see or hear any indication that he was anything other than stock. His windows are tinted dark, so I can't see him at all. I'm thinking I'd love to race, but my wife would wake up and wouldn't be too happy about it, so I just smile in his direction and go back to driving.

He hovers next to me for a minute or two, and then out of nowhere, BAM! Tires squealing, engine roaring, and before I know it, he's ten carlengths ahead. The sound (along with my "holy ****") was enough to wake up my wife anyway.

Based on the sounds I heard, I'm guessing he had a very big (150+?) shot of nitrous.

Then he slowed down and came back to sit next to me, at which point I smiled at him again and give a thumbs-up. He cruised next to me for a few more minutes, and then pulled ahead.

Anyway, had I chosen to race, I am certain I would have gotten my butt kicked. Thanks to my wife, I remain undefeated on the street.

This isn't really a kill story, but I just thought I'd share. If the owner of said Mustang happens to see this, I have two things to say: nice car, and would you mind sharing your mod list?

It would take a lot more than just a 150 shot on a mostly-stock 96-98 GT to really have a big advantage over your SS.

I too got suprised by one at the track(Cecil) that belonged to a buddy...

This past weekend my friend went 12.7 at 108MPH on motor with his 98 GT SOHC on drag radials and then 11.55 at 118MPH with a 100 shot. High flow cats. All sway bars on. Pump gas and no meth. Stock hood. Full interior even the spare in. I couldn't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5.0 "stroker", patriot heads, comp cams blah blah
I drove it. Pulls hard to 6400.

So, basically he's running 12s on motor with a completely built stroker motor?

Summer time is killing cars right now. At the track, a SN95 5.0 with a cam (don't know about heads) and a shot of nitrous (he was purging it at the line) hit 13.20s to my 12.90. Boy was he pissed 2000+ DA will do that to you

Did I miss a thread about your new car? When did you sell the '98 Z28 with the 415?

Yes through cats, with a small gap on the plugs and tuned for N20. I though it was pretty respectable for those cars. His best time in the spring was 12.2 on motor with that tune.
