Mustang GT goes down!

A couple hours ago I was on I-57 heading back to Chicago. I look in the mirror and see a pair of familiar-looking headlights. I pass a couple of trucks and get into the right lane, and sure enough I see a 2000 something Mustang GT with a couple of young guys in it. I wait for them to pull up next to me, but they must have seen F&F a few too many times and try to pull a ricer flyby on me. About 2 carlengths behind me they drop the hammer. I downshift into third with their door at my front bumper, getting a very late start. they must have been going 90MPH to my 80 MPH. I stop their pull just after I hit 4th. Shifting into fifth I'm at their back bumper, and shortly afterwards I walk them like they were standing still, at around 115MPH. It was awesome! I really thought those GT's were supposed to be pretty stout, but I guess they suck ***** like the 95-97's. Too bad I didn't have the bottle turned on, or it would have been over by the time I hit 100 MPH. I should have turned on the flashers to make sure they knew who won, but instead I just laughed.

With as many mods as you have you should have pulled a stock GT.

Yeah, I hear ya. This was the first time I have had a chance to race one, and I'm glad I did. The car at the top of my want to race list is a C5 Vette. I've probably tried to race at least 10 of them, and none of them will bite. I guess the Camaro is not worthy enough to race, at least in the minds of most Vette owners. I ran into one today on the way back home from getting my bottle filled for the first time. He came up next to me and I goosed it, but he just stared straight ahead and kept driving. I'm sure it would be a great race N/A, but I want to crush some ego's.

Now why did I say 95-97's? I'm an idiot. Anyways, my 16 year old brother has a 96 Vert and it's completely sackless. I think my mom's Mercury Sable pulls just as hard. He's wanting to mod the car, but I keep telling him that he probably won't be getting very high gains on a 4.6 SOHC with basic bolt-ons. I need to stop letting him drive my car, becuase he'll spend all his money TRYING to catch up. BTW, I gave him a ride yesterday after I got my nitrous installed. his face =

Yea he'll never catch up to you especially w/ that shot...Except if he plans on spending mucho mucho dinero...If he plans on doing a bolt on car I would encourage him not to waste his time

I ran a stock 99 at Stanton back in the summer and he ran a 14.08 at 99 (I have the slip laying around somewhere). Does that count as a good time? Considering that they run close to a second faster than the 96-98's I don't think that they are too bad.

lol, turning on the flashers sure does ad insult to injury when you've just beat someone that thought they would smoke you. Who cares if its a ricer original its still fun to do it once in a while.

Ain't that the truth! I would never ever turn on the flashers, but since he tried the ricer flyby on me I figured he wouldn't know who won unless I did. Apparently in the ricer community it's not good enough that you're ahead by 10 carlengths, you need to turn the flashers on as well!

Re: Mustang GT goes down!

Actually using the flashers probably originated not from just ricers, but from street racing itself. Sometimes it's hard to tell who won the race if the cars are far down the road & its a close race, so they turn them on to let the spectators know who won. Now in the case of rice burners racing, flashers should not be an option. You have to realize that they won't make it so far down the street that they would need flashers to indicate who won. And if it did get to that point, the race would take too damn long.

I think a car with 50+ more horsepower is a little more than "a little better"
Not saying they are great, but saying a 99+ compared to a 96 - 98 stock vs. stock is a little bit better is dumb.

They are a good race for a LT1 assuming they are similary modded, so taking shots at the 99+ Mustang and calling them slow is essentially calling the LT1 the same IMHO.
