Me vs. Cammed Z06
I met a really nice guy over the summer with an 03 Z06. He started modding the car almost as soon as he got it. Started off with a 150 shot and some minor bolt on stuff. Currently he is only running a 100 shot, with an air bridge, minor exhaust(no headers) work and a cam.
There was a few of us local guys hanging out last night, and we decided to go to Best Buy and shop for some stuff. It just so happened that we had to get onto the interstate to get there
For the racing that happened, the Z06 I ran did not spray.
As we got onto the interstate there was three Corvettes(two Z06's, and one C5 that is modded out the ***), two newer Mustang GTs(99+), and me in the Camaro. I got onto the interstate behind the Corvettes and in front of the Stangs. I knew there would be some fun, and on the on ramp to the interstate I went ahead and punched it, and it was like everyone else did at the same time! We had a clear road ahead so I started coming up on the Vettes. I got next to the Z06 that I described above, and heard him drop a gear. I hit second gear, and waited at about 55mph. He honked it off, and on the third honk we were gone!! I jumped a little less than a half car from the start, then he came by me. He ended up with about a 2-2.5 car lead by 125.
When we got to Best Buy the guy that owns the Z06 was really impressed. He said he thought he was going to have to spray me when I jumped ahead a little at first
I let him know that he wouldn't have needed the spray for me
Also the other two guys there driving corvettes(I know all of them) complimented me on how well the car was running.
I'm very happy with how it turned out, I'm not gonna bitch about losing to a cammed Z06 on the interstate
My car is really liking this cooler weather, seems like the more I drive it the faster it gets!

Yea, I have the HOTcam. Here is what all I have-
K&N intake, 1LE elbow, Meziere waterpump, 170* thermo, LT4 HOTcam, fully ported LT1 heads with 2.00x1.56 Manley Race Flo valves, LT4 knock module, SLP midlength headers, Off road Ypipe, Flowmaster Force II catback, PCMforless tuning, Midwest 2800 stall 9.5" converter, B&M transcooler, B&M shiftkit, 1LE aluminum driveshaft '02 SS 17x9 wheels.
*stock MAF, stock TB, stock gears.

Did he mention ...and if he did, did you remember the specs on the cam?
I ordered my H/C package and the cam is actually a replacement that the Z06 can use without tuning.

Its got a little more ummph than the LS6 cam.
I didnt know if thats the one he had or not.
If you go larger than that then it takes tuning to delete the SES light and thats what I wanted to avoid.
Also Sweet runs man.

I'm not sure what cam he is running. I didn't ask and he didn't say. That's some pretty mean lift on that cam you are gonna run, I think you'll like it!
I'm pretty sure he has his car tuned. He got it tuned when he put the nitrous on, then had it tuned again, so I would be surprised if he's running this cam with no new tuning.

Just wondering, FastestZ, How high do you rev you r motor with the HOT cam??? I run the same cam and was just wondering??? I have my MSD 6al set to 7000, but I dont know if Im just spinning those high rpms for nothing. Still feels strong all the way till it bounces the rev limiter. Sounds like your car is pretty fast to hang with a cammed Z06!!! Nice run!!!!
