Mach 1 vs Mitsu Lancer

Guys,
I thought I would post this kill over here before I took it to the Stang boards for an unbiased opinion.
Coming home on Hwy 74 today out of Charlotte, this kid in a silver Mitsubishi Lancer with loud exhaust on the car comes flying up beside me and slows to my speed of 50 mph. He throws a huge rev and pulls away while Im cruising. He looks in the rear view and pats the top of the car with his left hand.
That wasnt a smart move as I gear down and fly up beside him. Slowing to his speed ...with my index finger I motion for him to go first. He nods and takes off (you can tell it was a manual because he downshifted hard)
He gets about half a car before I hit the loud pedal come flying past him HARD! After putting two full bus lengths on him I slow back down and he comes right beside me again. AGAIN he starts patting the top of his roof
I motion for him to go again a he leaves hard once more. I give him a whole car length and slam down in my powerband to pull hard AGAIN!
As Im going by him he is patting the top
I just tap the brake lights a few times and go on about my way.

My question is ...
was it an EVO or just a regular version?
He did not have the huge spoiler on the rear and I didnt get to look at the hood for the indentions the EVO has (I was concentrating on the road at 120 mph)
His car was lowered and sporting the aftermarket exhaust.
It really makes me wonder so what do you guys think?
I know the EVO can scat off the line with its AWD , but from a roll would I have put the hurt on him that bad? Trust me it was BAD!!!!
Look in my sig to see my mods and times and give me your opinions.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Re: Mach 1 vs Mitsu Lancer

Sounds like a BS dummy lancer b/c real Evo's are no joke. I took 1 from a roll twice up to 85 before I shut it down, but I only took him by a car. They move pretty quick but it still takes 20 psi to keep up with any v8.

Re: Mach 1 vs Mitsu Lancer

My car runs the 1/4 mile in and around 12.30 right now so its really hard for me to tell if it was or was not since Im Import Ignorant...lol
My 4.30 gears really get the powerband screaming from a 40 mph roll also.

I think I can take an EVO , but didn't think I would pull like a freight train on one. It very well coulda been just a NA Lancer.

Re: Mach 1 vs Mitsu Lancer

I would say it was a Lancer with a fart pipe.
Most of the 'modded' evo's I see, are trapping 115+ or so, a few 120+.
And well, you get the idea.

Edit: Stock EVO's aren't uncommon to trap 103, I see you have trapped 104........just because they don't have 8cyl's......

Just a side note though....
That 104 was when the car was stock. Im pulling 109 mph on average now to get the 12.30s. Im not underestimating the EVOs just because they dont have 8 cylinders man, not once did I ever imply that. Im just asking questions from unbiased people. I now believe that it was just a regular Lancer. I would like to get ahold of a modded EVO at the track though to see how I stand with the slicks and skinnies on. 7.90s in the 1/8th I feel would give em a good run. Not implying that I would win , but not get drug too bad.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

Re: Mach 1 vs Mitsu Lancer

there's a cheaper mr version evo that performs the same without the wing, etc. As far as I know all the evo's are manual. There mostly mid to higher 13 second cars stock so would anniliate him if he was close to stock..and if it wasnt the turbo model I have no idea what he was doing messing w/ ya..none the less good kill

the mr is the most expensive one... the rs is the no-wing,no-stereo, no-power windows, less sound deadning 5 speed...

sounds like you raced a n/t lancer...

as far as needing 20psi, i only need 17(w/g min boost) to run mid12's @ 115s...

good kill...

Funny i just read this over on svtperformance, but yeah it more sounds like a lancer and not an evo. The evo would have probably been like 1 bus length behind instead of 2 like the lancer.

Your probably right....it was just an N/A model that thought the stickers and fart can actually increased HP. But don't get tooo cocky my friend....there are a handful of people dumping thousands of $$$ under those hoods ...making them 11 second killers and faster.

I read a write up of a modded Evo VIII that had massive head porting, knifed & lightened crank, strengthened short block, larger turbo, race exhaust, nitrous, and the list goes on and on. They wouldn't say the 1/4 times but I would think it was under 10.0s for sure.... pretty damn impressive for a 4 banger !

Just watch what you say to the wrong person. LOL

Re: Mach 1 vs Mitsu Lancer

Stock that evo should trap around 102-105 stock or w/only exhaust, with you trapping 109, the results sound a little off, but who knows.

Btw Antz, the evo is low 13 sec. car, not high.

Ive seen sti's in the low 13's stock...read it again, I said mid to higher...to get a stock evo in the low 13's stock you need to be one damn good driver

Re: Mach 1 vs Mitsu Lancer

It was probably a real evo. An evo is comparable to what a stock M6 LT1 from a roll? They only turn those nice 1/4s because of the sixty foots that they pull. I don't imagine they are demons from a roll.

And he runs 12.3s in the quarter. I'd say it was a legit evo.
