LT1 ws6 vs LS1 ss

I went for a cruse with two of my friends one has a ws6 ta with a LT1 and the other has a Ls1 SS.The ws6 guy says all he has is gutted cats and a flowmaster muffler with DR's in the back. All the guy with the ss has is slp loudmouth exhaust with street tires. Also both are M6.I thought for shure the Ls1 would win; but I was shocked when they went from a stop. The ls1 pulled a head whial the lt1 spun the DR'S but once the DR'S hooked the WS6 pulled easaly on the ls1 by the time they let off the lt1 was easaly a car and a half ahead and still going strong.I sat there scratching my head and all I could think is that my budy with the WS6 is not telling us all of his mods.I checked the car out and dident see any thing I'm thinking he had something done to his heads or somthing else internal.Do you guys think he could pull as hard as he did on a LS1 with loudmouth with a lt1 with gutted cats and a 3 chamber flowmaster. They both have the same gears and trany.

I would of thought the ls1 would win but you never know. Just cause its a lt1 does not make it slow but I would of thought the same that the ls1 would win

Re: LT1 ws6 vs LS1 ss

So your'e saying that the LS1 pulled the LT1 off the line and the LT1 spun the DR's right?
I would expect the complete opposite as the LT1 should have ripped it out of the hole with the stickies and the LS1 to make up ground around the 3rd gear pull.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

cold dragradials on the street along w/ a shakkkkkey foot= not hooking with drag's. IMO dr's are hard as **** to just rip outta the hole on..you have to feather them at first and where they really shine is the top of 1st and slammin' into second where alot of 6speeds tend to get a lil ****ty.

Re: LT1 ws6 vs LS1 ss

How fast did you guys get going?

A LT1 WILL pull on a LS1 through the RPM range. Then you get close to redline, and they pull past you ...

Seems like once you hit the 70mph ish range, is where you can see how hard the top end is on an LS1. Tell them to do a 0-100 run and it may be a little different.

Re: LT1 ws6 vs LS1 ss

Not shure how fast they were going but I was behind them on a two lane highway about; four cars back, and I was doing 50 then had to stop for a red light but I could see that the lt1 was still pulling on him.I don't think they got much over 70mph,maby 80 85.The guy In the WS6 dident warm his nittos up which caused his slipping in 1st but just like black97 they really hooked going into 2nd.We're going to go for anouther ride next week and Im going to see how I do against his WS6 from a stop.I have a 1996 z28 with shorties, loudmouth,Cold air intake,1.6rr's,52mm tb,pcm for less tune,le1 intake elbo,lt4 km,underdrive pully, free mods and a A4 with 3.23 in the rear. Also,I am going to tell my buddy with the lt1 to race the ls1 from a 0-100 before I run against him.

Short answer is no. Car vs car once the LT1 lost traction at the line he should have been steadily pulled with no chance of reeling his buddy in. I estimate the LS1 in this story has about a 30-35 rwhp advantage over the LT1. But a race isn't just car vs car. It's also driver vs driver when talking about M6's. Driver mod can make or break any race.

Maybe the LT1 had more mods he didn't disclose. Maybe the LS1 has tuning issues and is running sub par. But most likely the LS1 just got beat by a slightly slower car with a better driver.

At that speed there didn't even run a 1/8th mile. That is LT1 territory.

Actually it's been proven that they are underrated

GM said they came with 305/325 HP but in reality they all came with about 345 HP. The whole low end torque thing is just a bad rap. You line up a stock LT1 and stock LS1 (same gears and transmissions) you'll get a neck and neck race off the line with the LS1 starting to pull ahead by the top of second and walking away at the top of third.

I used to race my buddy in his stock 95 Z28 back when I was stock so I know this from experience.

I have taken quite a few LS1's in the 1/8th, and if I got beat, I was right there about 2 or 3 tenths of a second behind em. I'm sure if I spent more time at the track I could get my car quicker. But two track days a year is what I average, and thats just not enough practice.

I average two track days a month. But then again I do live only 20 minutes away and it's only $12 bucks. I usually get there early so 12 runs is normal for me. That's only a buck a run

But in all those runs this past season I only lined up with one LT1. There is an abundance of imports, mustangs, vettes and ls1 f-bodies at the track but very few LT1's for some reason. My favorite car to race though is the SRT-4. I don't know why but I love lining up with those guys.
