lt1 vs 06 charger daytona R/T

I came behind a daytona charger couple nights ago on ritchie hwy/MD, which is a big street race spot.At green we both hit it, I did pretty good on 1st and 2nd gear, i was right with him, but after 3rd gear he pulled about 1/4 of a car length on me, then we stopped at another light. At the next light I did not go because it smelled like something was burning its a** off, I didnt want to mess it up.Later I talked to him, at first he was a smartass and told me why I couldnt pass him , lol, and then he told me something even dumber he said before the daytona he had an 02 ls1 z28 and his daytona is faster, which I highly doubt because if I can hang with him , Im sure an ls1 would kill it. It was the 350 hp/ 390 torque daytona model ( copper/black color).
By the way my car is somewhat stock(6 speed) , nothing except throttlebody/exhaust/1.6rrs/oil coolers/b&m short shift(which were on the car when I bought it).

A ls1 will kill him hands down.I beat one of thoes about a month ago with no problems in my 96 lt1.All I have is ram air with KnN filter,58mm tb,vortec intake elbo, shorties,LM exhaust,PCM for less tune,lt4 km,underdrive pulley,1.6rrs,free mods, and a A4 with 3.73 in the rear.Mostly stock ls1s with good drivers give me problems;I eather barly win or barly loose.Maby he thinks its faster than the LS1 bacause the 390tq rating makes it feel faster than it actually is.

Re: lt1 vs 06 charger daytona R/T

I raced the 425HP, 6.1L SRT8 version of the Charger at the track a couple weeks ago and smoked him. I actually talked to the guy for quite a while, and he was telling me that he was very disappointed with the car, performance wise. His best run that night was a 13.8 @ 104 (he ran 14.0 @ 104 when we ran together). He said that the torque management totally kills all the power in the car off the line ... said he can barely make the tires spin when he punches it off the line . The guy also has a '99 C5, M6, with a few mods, so he knows what a "real" car should go/feel like. He said he wished the Charger could be had with a 6-speed so you could avoid the interference of torque management.

...the Challenger will have a 6-speed, so will likely be more of a "Challenge", but still, considering 425 HP ... my 310 HP (according to GM) Camaro runs way better than 13.8 @ 104 .

...in terms of TM with the auto, I hope the '09 Camaro isn't so severly affected by it when it comes out??

Same problem the GTO has. GM uses computer nannies to cover up their use of cheap components. I've seen guys pick up a half second in a4's just by programming out the torque management. It's the main reason you see so many crappy times outta the goat.

it really depends on where on ritchie you are though, there are some spots that are full of cops and some dont really have none. I was in severna park/ritchie hwy which dont have as many cops as glen burnie ritchie hwy.

Glad to see we're in the same area.

Not really. With that crappy 60' and the elevation he's at, he's about where he is supposed to be SAE corrected.

At theDakota flat track 1/8 th mile track a yelllow one was running a best of 9.50 @77 and it had a Flowmaster muffler on it. My 94 z28 ran a best time of 8.90@80 and 8.96 was the slowest! BTW my car ran ran 14.4 stock (1/4) and this time would even be a good match vs it! This race was on the sept. long wknd.
