Lt1 - 5.0
Lt1 - 5.0
How yould it go down do you guys think? I hate to be cliche but I bought my 94 Z28 over a 5.0 and the stang def. felt faster. Dunno though. What about as far as modding?\
Id go race one myself and find out but the way my car is running right now a kid with strong legs and a 10 speed would leavve me

Well, from the other thread about the nissan giving you fits I would try to get the car checked out before I ran anyone. Sounds like something is a little amiss with your LT1. You need to do the following regardless if the previous owner "says" he did.
1. Change oil
2. Check and possibly change plugs
3. Check and possibly replace wires as well.
4. Personally I would get a compression check done
5. Check tranny fluid...make sure it does not smell burned or discolored dark.
6. Tranny fluid / filter change.
These are some starting points to look at.
Then once the car has checked out then go for other mods that will help get you off the line without bogging.
Your car can beat a stock 5.0 if its running properly.

Well... a friend of mine has an 88 5.0 5 spd with full exhaust and intake. She couldn't even come close to beating my stock 93 z28. I'd say if your car is in decent running condition, then you have nothing to worry about.
Totally agreed....Your car's not doing something right or your a real bad driver. One of the two man, have that car checked out. Personally: You should be smoking them 5.0's every single day of the week with no problem, I don't have to floor it to beat them
Stock versus stock, yeah you would win. But you have to be careful because these cars have been around forever and parts are very cheap and finding a stock one to race might be difficult. It does not take a lot for example for a 5.0 LX to run with an LT1, the exact reason mine is getting a few mods soon.
i picked my z over a 90 5.0. they had about the same miles, mine is auto and the 5.0 was stick, both were in good enough condition. sometimes i wonder if i should of gotten the 5.0 but i know lt1's can last longer as i got a loan and am paying it off for a few years. i also know this lt1 can and still will kick the sh** out of that 5.0
Wow what a general question...try the search function...and research both cars...The 5.0 is torquey down low as is the LT1. Remember sotp feeling depends alot on the gearing... the LT1 will eat it alive up top though, reason being the stock 5.0 heads suck...ofcourse assuming both were stock or close to(which these days finding a stock 5.0 is near impossible). The 5.0 mod market is probably the biggest ever for any car, seeing it was the most popular muscle car ever...LT1 isnt too bad itself. When the modding begins anything goes, but the LT1 on average is probably a good 1/2 second faster stock. Ofcourse there are exceptions to the rule.

I bought my 95 Z28 over a 94 5.0 as well. It was a good friend of mine that I almost bought it from though, so a couple weeks after I got the Z28(Had to have the tranny rebuilt) we ran from a roll and it was like he wasn't even trying. His had headers, flows, edelbrock intake manifold and throttle body, and cams.
As for why you could be bogging off the start. I'll tell you mine has only bogged off the start twice, when I was real low on gas and right before my tranny went out.
I agree with some of the others though. I would do a oil and filter change. New plugs. Check the wires. Check all the fluids.

The 94-95 5.0's are no problem, they need heavy mods to keep up. Now Fox bodies, especially the earlier low option (light) ones are a different story. An 87-88 3.08 geared 5spd with manual windows and locks and no ac will put up the best fight. Many of these cars have run low 14's at 98-99 or so stock which is only a little off of a stock auto LT1 time. After the stripe the difference becomes more apparent because the 5.0 will run out of breath quickly, and the top end on the LT1 is about 12-13 mph higher.
My 90 was an AOD with 2.73's stock, it turned a 14.59 at 95+ with just free mods. A 5spd would have done much better. Add mods and all bets are off.
You need to get your car in good running shape before you worry about mods. Also check the fuel pressure and change out that fuel filter with the other tuneup stuff like Mikie said.

Are you crazy???The lt1 has way more low end grunt than a 5.0 Mustang of any year. The lt1 will not outrun an ls1 powered vehicle, but I think it has a better seat of the pants feel off the line...throwing you in your back seat. There is definetly something wrong if you think a 5.0 feels like it has more power than an LT1.Especially if the LT1 is a 6 speed.First gear and Second pull hard.I have beat countless 5.0 Mustangs.

I dont remember him mentioning that the 5.0 he drove was stock, chances are it wasnt....the only reason the LT1 feels gruntier then the LS1 is because the powerband is alot shorter..I guess if your racing to 30 mph then thats good...LS1 is still faster down low its just much smoother...He also bought a 13yo car, it might not be running in tip top shape...Ive beat several 5.0's as well in LT1's but the 5.0 doesnt need much at all to hang or beat one...
True,he didnt mention it was stock.I guess I was basing it off assumption...Sorry about that.Well the lt1 makes max torque around 2400rpms...compared to the ls1 4000 rpms.Obviously, the lt1 is going to feel like it has more torque eventhough it obviously does not.Stock the lt1 is typically about .8-1 second faster than a 5.0 Mustang.True, the lt1's powerband is much shorter than the ls1.The lt1 peaks fast and falls off around 3800-4000 rpms. Finally,he did kinda throw me off by mentioning(how would it go down do you guys think?).Without listing any mods,I assumed they were both stock.

The thread starter is having issues with his car as in another thread he mentions a Nissan 240 giving him trouble.
A properly driven LT1 will beat a properly driven 5.0 stock for stock.
I really think that if it were my LT1 I wouldnt be racing anyone until I figured out why my car was even close to running with a 240 Nissan.
I just went to the track this past weekend and got my first times on my car. With the mods in the sig minus the heavy wheels ( welds/skinnies/slicks ) I ran
1/8th mile ( 8.96 ) at 78 mph
60' (1.98 )
1/4 mile ( 13.95 ) at 100 mph
Not too shabby...although its very slow compared to what Im used to...lol
