LS1 vs STI
LS1 vs STI
I ran into an STI last night. I was cruising at 55 and he came flying up beside me. I kept it in third and nailed it. He tried to keep up but my turbo is bigger than his.
I sucked all four of his doors off. I backed down around 110 and slowed back to 60 or so. He did a flyby, but I rolled up next to him at the next light. To his huge disadvantage he had 3 other dudes in the car, and he didn't know how to launch that thing. I thought he was going to get me off the line, but when the light changed, I left him about four cars back by 80.

Re: LS1 vs STI
I hate to say this but motor trend got 13.23 at 104.9 out of theirs.04 model just searched it.So no way can any stock lt1 that I ever owned come close to that time without taking out hundred of pounds of weight. The wrx are the ones that run closer to high 13s at 100 or so.They are rated 222 think it is and the sti are rated 300.But think they are still hundreds of pounds lighter than most lt1s and ls1s and of course can get like 1.6 60fts off the line on street tires.
I couldn't pull any better than a 2 something 60ft dead hooking on nitto drag radials on my 96 vert with 3.42 A4 and minor mods so it would take a pretty modded up lt1 or ls1 to touch a sti even stock. You might get them from a roll but in most quarter miles you would lose badly.I know it hurst our v8 pride but thats the beauty of awd turbo cars. And as for no torque myth turbo 4's can't put out v8 torque numbers once on boost. And its probably at full boost at 3000 or maybe a bit lower.
I love my lt1 and ls1 but I love my turbo awd too.Its big fun to drive,I destroy everything not on race tires off the lights unless its another similar awd car and the turbos are so simple to upgrade its ridiculous and pretty cheap, although support mods for bigger turbos can add up.
Still it should take next to nothing to get a subaru sti into the 12s with minor mods like boost controller, exhuast and little things. To get my vert into mid 12s is going to take spray or cam and headers and all the bolt ons for sure.
And traction.
And at our local track of 19000 feet the turbo cars have added advantage of not being affected by altitude near as bad as na cars are.
At our altitude buddies ls1s with bolt ons and say headers and no cam run like 13.4 at just slightly more mph than the stock sti.
Now if subaru would offer a sti like their old 2 door imprezza coupe instead of the godawful ugly four door with that stupid wing might actually buy one used some day.Of course they do make great all season cars thats why I got an awd talon.

The WRX doesn't trap 100 mph stock. The fastest trap I've seen in a magazine is around 96 mph, and they trap mid to low 14's at best.
The STi and WRX are very strong off the line if you are willing to drop the clutch off the rev limiter. That's how Motortrend gets the 13.3 E.T. From a roll they will both get beat by a LS1. A LT1 will beat a WRX from a roll, but probably slowly get walked by a STi.
STi curb weight = 3268 lbs

Re: LS1 vs STI
Yeah I know its all magazine racing and drivers play a huge part on the street or track. At my track last time I ran my 96 vert there was an srt 4 and wrx or sti.Assume wrx.
The srt 4 ran like 16.5 the run I saw on street tires and missing second gear or some gear..and think heard his best that night was 15 something. The wrx I believe did 15s and didn't see a 14.Its not easy to drive manual cars and fwd are harder than awd when it comes to turbos and street tires.
Give me a good auto and stall and tires and lt1 or ls1 will beat lots of supposedly faster cars in the real world. No missed shifts and stall really helps the launch if you can hook it up.
Thats a big diff in mph from 100 to 104.9 for sure.Makes you wonder if that motor trend sti was bone stock? Of course also part of how these cars run is how crazy you want to launch and how high you want to shift.Like s2000s you have to rev them to the moon and drive heck out of them I hear to get them to be fast.

Re: LS1 vs STI
They need to drop the clutch at 5500 or so to get a good launch. If not, they run high 13's. There were three STI's at my track one day. The quickest ran a 13.7. The other two ran low 14's. Just bad driving. If you they don't get a good launch, they are lame ducks.
Re: LS1 vs STI
Sure have been a lot of camaros racing srt's lately on this board. Those srt's are just comen out of the woodwork
Sure am glad it's the camaros winning most of the races and not the other way around. Buy the way good kill
