Just got killed by cammed lS1 SS
Just took my friend to parts store and got behind a SWEET red SS, had the stamped exhaust, chrome ZR1's, and a blacked out rear section between the taillights. We had to turn onto a 4 lane road and we both turned left and he took off and I fell in behind him. He slowed a bit to let me get up beside because there was a red light ahead of us. It turned yellow as we rolled through and we were both at maybe 40 mph and I passed slowly and kinda bounced it at him, he had none of this and I could see his bumper drop in my rearview. So we both take off and through 4th gear, we were pretty even ( I had to slow for a car in front of me). I fell behind him and passed the car in front of me to get back up beside him for a red light ahead of us. We get stopped for the light and he rolls window down and I tell him he has a nice ride, he replies that he cant get any traction with it through 3rd gear, and that he needs slicks.....
When the light dropped, we both spun off the line. I put up to a car or more on him through first gear, I could see his headlights in my mirror. Held the same distance through second. When he hit third, things started tp get ugly!! I was revving my third out and he creeps right pass me to maybe a car through fourth gear.
When we let out, I got back beside him and gave him props on his car and he told me that it was about 425 horse on the dyno???..... I dont know, just what he said....Said he had a cam??,whisper lid, Longtube headers, LS6 intake, ported TB! and MAF sensor. Didnt seem to have too much off the line, but one hell of a top end charge!!! Would've been nice to have my nx kit working right... But you cant win em' all!!!! Guy wasnt even gonna give me ANY props
????? I think I did pretty good for a RS camaro!!! So,
to the almighty LS1...once again!!! Maybe next time.... Later guys!!

Well thanks guys!!! Think he said he had the big roller rockers too. 1.8's?????? I think??? It was a sight!! When he hit third he was behind me and I could hear him coming on!!! Passed me and put a car on me, hit 4th and shut down! Those things sure are responsive to mods!!! With some nitto's, he would be very fast. He said he couldnt get traction through 3rd. I was VERY impressed!!!! That thing would be a cobra eater for sure!!! Doesnt hurt my feelings at all to loose to an LS1 car like that!! Thanx for the props guys!!!

Dont want to start any flame war about those cobras!! I just meant that he would be in the same class as a cobra!! This was a mean Camaro though, nonetheless!!! I know I couldnt take a cobra ( maybe if my nx kit was working!!) . I figure I would run in the 12.00's somewhere on all motor. Dont know cause I havnt ran it at the strip yet. That SS would be a good match for a cobra, though, I think!!

Dont be so sure..the new Cobra's are runnin mid to high 11's w/ a pulley,chip, and catback and trapping around 120, now thats responsive to mods..425 hp will handle a stock cobra thats about it.. A simple pullley swap will raise the boost more then 3 psi and close to 40 hp just to give ya an idea....btw good runs

Hey guys, the red SS shane is talking about is mine. and the mods I beat him with are in my sig. I did not have the TC or shift kit in when this race took place and my tires were bald as f##k khumos. Now, as far as 425 rwhp I never said that. hell the car has never been dynoed yet. It may make 380 or so flywheel hp but I have no clue. The roller rockers are the slp 1.85 and its got stock cam with 03 ls6 springs and retainers, and the ls6 intake. NO longtubes yet! And shane, I gave you props that day I saw you at the liqour store. I like your car a lot and it launched like a raped ape. I just wanted to clear all that up. Shane I sent you a pm.

FYI, there ARE LS1's making 400+rwhp with a cam and other boltons while keeping the heads stock. Now stock bottom end LS1s with heads and cams are starting to push the 480rwhp range. 382ci strokers are over the 500rwhp mark so whats soooo hard to believe about a 425rwhp ls?
