Go Get "um" Camaro
Just received this article and saw the heading. Had to post it and I hope this is right place as we have Ford and Camaro people responding. It's a good thing the H/P had a Camaro and not a Mustang!!!
Motorcycle leads State Patrol on 170 MPH Chase!
Crook, Colo.- It sounds like a scene out of an action movie, but this time the high sped chase was real!
A man on a motorcycle on Interstate 76, tried to out run a Colorado State Patrol Camaro. Speeds hit 170 MPH and Patrol Dist. Sgt. said the Camaro was running wide open.
According to officers a 18 year old man pulled off the interstae and tried hiding in a farm shed. He was busted on a number of charges including speeding and reckless driving.
Police say, fortunately traffic was light at the time, and there were no wrecks or injuries.

Re: Interesting Article
Too bad the top speed of a stock LS1 Camaro is only 157-163 mph. Maybe they were going downhill? Good thing they didn't have a Stang! The top speed of my car stock is only about 140 due to bad gearing and not enough power.
Re: Interesting Article
Those Colorado troops are, for the most part great guys, and wouldn't beat the crap out of him!Trooper probably enjoyed putting his foot in it.
My stock 2000 has seen 160 and this Maro guy, didn't have the gonads to go more, even though it wanted too. I have understood that GM told the Patrol that they would guarantee 160mph. I used to drive X-MO. State Patrol Mustangs, (3) different years. They were good fast cars.
After 92, I started buying and driving Camaro's I found the performance, handling and safety of the Chevy's were better.
I could never understand why ford didn't put 4 wheel disc brakes on their SSP (Special Service Package) police rated Stangs, and Chevrolet did on their B4C (Police Package's).
As anyone that was in Law enforcement will likely tell you, those pony cars (Both SSP'S and B4C'S) were great for catching people, but very limited in
space especially for the 6' and over troopers.

Re: Interesting Article
All I have seen or heard of are 4 speed auto's
However, I do know of some Patrol Camaros that have been reprogramed to get some more top end speed. If I am correct some of the programers state it doesn't void the warantee from GM.
I do think my 97 LT-1 was quicker than my 00 LS-1 and the troopers I know who have driven both seem to agree.

Re: Interesting Article
Please - send pics, video, whatever. Please make sure the make/model/part number of this 5-speed F-body tranny is included.
You'll please forgiving for saying that there is no such thing. Sure there are some "souped up" police cruisers (very rare, but they exist), however, they would have been done after delivery from GM. IE...aftermarket.
Ditto with the Fox body Mustangs. None of them EVER left Dearborn with blowers destined for police duty (or any other duty for that matter).
Sorry...this is the stuff of urban legend.

Hey gals and guys:
Ford made their LAST! Police duty mustang in 1993! I had one of the last.
Some places you see a DARE car which has been confiscated, Corvette's,all types of mustangs, camaros, even foriegn cars.
Just because they are used in police duty, doesn't qualify them as police package vehicles.
Did you know? Dodge has came out with the Hemi, rear wheel drive Police PKG. I had a friend who drove one last week at Las Vegas Speed Way.
The Fleet mangers from all over the U.S.A. came and were shown the 2 whl drive Chevrolet Tahoe 5.7, Crown Vic and Dodge, they were allowed to drive them on the track. He said the Dodge was very, very, impressive.
I would like to see a photo of a camaro with 5-speed auto!
The B4C (police) brochure shows only available transmissions as 4-speed Auto and 6 Speed manual. As we all know 2002 was last B4C year.
Great chatter, gosh I didn't know there was so much interest in my little article.
Just hope no one gets mad at the posts. Lots of knowledge out there and it's always good to learn!

Hell, I can have him email you pictures, maybe even a video. How about this, he's also escorted the president in a z06 highway patrol cars that run around illinois/missouri. Let's not forget the fleet of blown fox body mustangs that were retired from service, but are now used as D.A.R.E. cars. There are also quite a few SS camaros used as interceptor vehicles in these parts. Yes, it's true, there are some badass suped up v-8 sports cars owned by law enforcement agencies roaming around on america's highways. It's hard to mistake, and hard to miss a 1-2-3-4-D shift pattern in a z28, unless it's a clever hoax...
