My coworker just bought the car a couple weeks ago and he was bragging to everyone about it. Someone told him that I had a fast camaro so he came up to me and asked me if I wanted to race, he had told me he smoked an SS so now I had to do it. I think he said his Mercedes had like 400hp which surprised me, I figured most mercedes were slow. So during lunch we drove out to a long street and stopped at a green light and waited for it to turn red. We looked around and there was no cops. Light went green and we take off, I spun the wheels all the way through the intersection and when I got traction he was 1 car length ahead of me (yeah I know I ****ed up) but then I start creeping on him at about 50 and at about 80 I pass him and then let off at 110 and by that time he was about 3 to 4 car lengths behind me. I was proud of my car and he passed by with an emberessed look on his face and I was just laughing at him. So I shut him up. Now he's telling me he ordered a new Corvette Z06 and wants to race me when he gets it. Yeah right! I'm not stupid. I think he was lying about beating an SS, I raced one and beat it by a car length so I think he was lying. Even if he did I got revenge

 

I don't know about the '01 E55s, but a friend of mine has an '05 and it runs 12.30s at 117-118 all stock, with so much top end pull, its just sick...He's debating on getting some DRs and looking for an 11 sec run....I do know that he's beaten lots of people who didn't know what he had...I know I'd think twice about racing him from a roll...

From 80 to 110 you put 4 car lengths on him? The N/A E55 is good for mid 13's at 106mph

I'm not too sure if it was from 80 to 110, I would take quick glances at my gauges so maybe I read it wrong or something. And just to clear things up it wasn't an AMG if that's what you're thinking. I am sure though that I was at 110mph when I let off and he was about 3 car lengths behind me. As far as mods go, I have a ram air kit, Loudmouth exhaust, Headers, and a thermostat. I think the '05 E55 comes stock with 450 now but I don't really know a lot about Mercedes that's just what I heard.

 

All E55s are AMGs. That's like saying it was a Cobra Mustang, but not SVT.

The 01s had 349hp and 391 torque and weighed about 3700 pounds.

Your SS weighs about 300 pounds less but is less powerful. The two cars should have been a very good race though I don't doubt you beat him by 3-4 lengths at 110... just depending on circumstances.

As mentioned, though, don't even THINK about messing with the newer body style E55. 469hp @ 6100rpm, 516tq @ 2650 rpm

 

That's totally beleivable to me, the LS-1 REALLY wakes up around 70-80mph. Stock '01 & '02 LS-1 Z28s have been known to run as low as 12.9's, typically they're in the really low 13 range. So I have no doubt a LOW 13 second car with top end power could put 3 car lengths on a mid 13 second car.

FYI: My friend had a 2000 Z28 (a mid 13 car at the time) when I was running 13.9in my LT-1. I took him off the line and had 2 car lengths on him right away. By 60mph my gap was shortening fast, at 80mph he blew by me and by 100mph he was so far far ahead of me I couldn't begin to calculate the carlengths. That's when I realized how strong the LS-1s are up top.

 

With headers it's believeable.
