Just a quick question. 04 gto with a 125 shot. Everything else stock. probably will go from a slow roll around 10mph...thats how I usually do it because I cant launch. Not sure if it is an auto or a stick though. So I need some opinions on both.

Of coarse he thinks he can take me without the bottle because everyone thinks camaros are slow around here. But anyway...he will want to run with the bottle after I spank him without it.

Do I even have a chance?

 

what numbers are you putting down at the moment? Or what ET's if you haven't dynoed?

 

I'd say you stand at least a chance, but that nitrous not only gives him higher peak power, it also increases power all over the rpm range....bad for you, good for him.

 

I will have numbers once I get my dyno tune. Im waiting to install my gears and true duals before I get the tune though.

I beat a high 12 second 80's 383 bonneville from a 10 mph roll by about 2-3 car lengths to about 100-110....with my current set-up minus the ls6 intake.

Never been to the track....I once g-tech'd my car when It only had a lid and a flowmaster cat back and I ran a 13.2 @ 107.

But im pretty much assuming I shouldnt bet any money on this race if he is using the nitrous...correct?

Say my car is putting down 380 at the wheels before the tune...to be optimistic. He would put down about 425 to the wheel im guessing. And my car is about 300-400 pounds lighter, it is a no option hard top. so take away 10 horsepower or so per 100 pounds and I might stand a chance....not really sure, thats why im asking you guys.

And doesnt a 125 shot of nitrous add almost 200 torque?

 

It'll add lots of torque everwhere in the power-band, A nitrous car has an advantage over a N/A car, generally a nitrous fed 400 hp car will be faster than a N/A 400 hp car because it will make lots more tourque everwhere in the rpm range. I wouldn't bet money on the race, but it't not to say that you'll lose necessarily.

 

You would take him easily without N2O. With N2O its going to be a good battle. Put your Z on a diet for the race and you might edge him out.

Without the bottle you will destroy him. with your mods you are making pretty damn good power I'm sure.

What kind of tires is he using. With a 125 shot he will have traction issues in the first few gears.

Maybe go from 20 with him on the bottle so he will fry the tires. 10mph is probobly to low of rpm for his noz to come on.

 

I say that if you *dont* win, then you prolly wont loose by too much. You have a cammed/full-exhaust/full-intake/dry-optioned (so it's light) LS1; plus like you said you weigh quite a bit less than a GTO. I say you take him.

 

Im not sure what kind of tires or even if it is an auto or manual. Just one of my friends was talking to a guy at this mechanic shop in town. The guy who owns the shop has the gto.

I hear about cars to race like this all the time....just about everyone in town with a sports car wants a peice of me ever since I spanked that bonneville.

I cant even drive into town without having people come up to me wanting to race or someone that has heard about my car and have someone to race me...that kind of crap.

It is funny but I am sort of turning into the king around here...and I only have a solid 12 second car, a high 11 second car at best....with a tune and some dr's....LOL. Must be because it is a small town.

You think thats sad? My LT1 has been getting 100x more attention ever since I laid the smack down on some poorly built '71 Nova with a BB 454. He was "king" apparently. No respect for the new school. Kids these days.

 

The only thing that gets respect around here is turbo rice and mustang 5.0's.

 

I run a 100 shot on my GTO and it makes 396 rwhp. With a 125 shot he's probably making about 10 more hp than me if it's bone stock otherwise. Without knowing what kind of rwhp or track times you have, it's hard to tell. However, don't count on him spinning like mentioned here, cause I have zero traction issues on the bottle except a little spin on the 1-2 shift. I would not race him from a slow roll though. In my experience, the NOS hits much harder under 60 mph than it does on a highway roll. I'd try him at higher speeds when he's spraying.

Well....it happened
the car was an automatic BTW, it was basically stock I guess....he had some kind of cai Ive never seen before and a cat-back.

both races from a 20mph roll. to about 120

1st race...no nitrous...probably like 6 or 7 car lengths....he was just real far behind.

2nd race....125 shot...pulled him in first by about a car, I think I might have jumped the gun by a tad...I was real nervous....stayed that way...might have pulled another half car on him, then he gave up at about 100 after I shifted into fourth. He noticed he wasnt pulling me I guess and decided to give up.

still cant believe it...the damn thing isnt even tuned and im running a flowmaster cat back. And my cam isnt even very big

The guy didnt even stop to talk after the second race. He told me before we even raced that he wouldnt even need his nitrous because his car had 45 more horsepower than mine. said my car was only rated at 305 horse blah blah blah. And that my cam and headers would only add about 40 horsepower.He even said that my cam wouldnt even help me much at all without a tune and that it would kill all my low end torque. This guy just KNEW he was going to win...LOL

the guy even owns his own damn automotive shop right on the ave, he needs to start doing some homework on stuff before he runs his mouth.

I know my car isn't the fastest thing out there, but i love people who think theres is, then get spanked. Nothing like breaking someones confidence in there car. Esspecially when it's someone like you were talking about.
