omg today the most amazing race happened. i still dont know whether i should **** a brick or what. anyways i was driving home from getting lunch, and at a light i was turning right, but as i approached i saw the back end of a 454 chevelle with the ever popular SS badge and stripes. i could have just fainted. it was beautiful.

when he took off he floored it, got it a bit sideways and spun the tires into second gear. it was crazy. meanwhile i was flooring it just to try and end up beside him to give a thumbs up and a BIG smile. he did this in the third of four lanes. i was in the second lane. then out of nowhere a blue subaru(not wrx i believe) flew by on my left(first lane). well a light was ahead and the wrx would be the first car, with some suv beside him, the chevelle behind the suv, and me behind the wrx(the chevelle guy changed to lane 2 and i changed to lane one. there is no longer a 4th lane since it was turn right only. i gave the guy a huge thumbs up and he smiled back in the chevelle.

well the light turned green and the impreza launched it, the chevelle changed to the third lane(cutting off whoever was in it) to go around the suv before lane 3 ended. i was flooring it behind the impreza. the chevelle guy took the lead, i got behind him(by about 30ft or so) and i passed the impreza as well. i let off at about 120, the chevelle guy must have been going at least 135, and the impreza driver was way behind me so i dunno.

but omg it felt so nice to get my *** handed to me by a REAL musclecar!!!

and it felt even better being beaten by some good ol' bowtie power

very true. good to see one hold up or in this case beat newer technology. my second race when i was stock was against a beautiful 70-71? mach1. he kept revving and i was so nervous hearing all the stories about them. it wasnt even a match, i was very disappointed for him.

Ya the Mach's were really no match. They were HORRIBLY over-rated. Unless it's the Boss 429 you were talking about.

I raped a 454 73' corvette stringray (duno if that counts as a muscle car lol) but it was kinda sad to see it go.

 

When my newborn son was in the hospital (he was born premature) i had my Firebird Formula in Missoula and raced a few cars, mostly imports, beat a 3000GT the Twin Turbo or turboed one whatever it was, beat 2 Mustang GT's a 04 convertible, and a 99,then raced a diesel ford with propane injection, it was fast but still to slow, then i got beside a new 2005 corvette, reved it up, but knew id at the end, he smoked me by 2 cars (damn traction control), then got beside a chick in a 69 SS with a 396 and she pretty much raped me, it had a ton of mods, she said her boyfriend had it dynoed at around 509 rwhp...i was like ****, it wasnt even her car. but yeah ne ways chevelles kick a$$....proud to say i have only been beat by GM muscle so far, don't get me wrong, those were the only 2 races i ever lost so far.

Some older cars were pretty fast from the factory, but hot rod was really impressed with the lt1 camaro when it first came out. Dont get to cauky around some of those older cars that have built eninges they can make just as much power as our cars.

 

Too many people use the muscle car label on cars that were never considered muscle cars. Almost all of the muscle cars were emasculated with low compression and small camshafts in 1972. The only notable exception was the 455 Super Duty Firebirds that continued for a couple more years. Real muscle cars are the Boss and Cobra Jet Mustangs, Z/28 Camaros, SS396, and SS454 Chevelles and El Caminos, GTO's, any Hemi or 440 powered Mopar, Olds 442's, Buick GSX's, etc.

The '70 SS454 Chevelle was tested by Motor Trend or Car and Driver and ran the 1/4 in 13.12 on crappy street tires 35 years ago. Don't think I only like muscle cars, todays cars are great. They have great power, reliability, and fuel economy. But don't under estimate a true muscle car. Especially with with a few modifications.

 

well, muscle cars were made for what most of us in here are trying to do. go fast and sound cool. most muscle cars never put up 12 sec timeslips so they don't often get respect from guys who read the 1/4 mile times on the internet. i'd say 13.5's on bias plies, leaf springs, and old *** suspension echnoloy is pretty good for a 454 ls6 chevelle. it had to be fun to kick it goin 50 and knock the back end out back in the day.

 

Awesome story, the best part of summer is when all of those old classic cars come out of hiding and prowl the streets. Nice kill on the suburu, I'm gonna be going against a guy at work with a stock 03 wrx. He says he needs new tires because his are bald already and it will be about three weeks. That is cool because by then I'll have my Pacesetter LTs and ORY put on as well as my mail order tune.

 

Why would you worry about his stock WRX with your car at all??

 

yeah it was amazing. i KNOW i've seen the car before, i just cant remember where. i was crusing through the neighborhoods for like an hour yesterday trying to find it to get a picture/chat with the owner. it was blue w/ white stripes.

i know the old muscle cars arent terribly fast by today's standards, but you have got to admit nothing sounds or looks better/meaner at full throttle.

 

As much as I love the LT-1 and LS-1, I have to admit there is just something about the rumble of a big block that never gets old. Makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and sends shivers down your spine. The muscle cars from the 60s and 70's have a way of taking you back in time. Lets face it, you cant go a block nowadays with out seeing a 4th gen or a c-5. Even vipers are a familiar site for most. It isnt every day that you see a well done 454 chevelle or mint 1st gen camaro. I love technology, but cant't deny the old saying "Old is Gold". Great story!!

yeah, i would trade my 94 Z for a 69 camaro or chevelle SS any day(not even for the money difference, just the badass-ness).

im hoping to have a good job when im out of school so i can get my dad his dream car(1969 Camaro SS, or yenko/copo) for his 60th birthday(hes 45 now so that gives me a fair amount of time).

we've got to wonder how it will be in the future, our kids will have never seen a REAL musclecar, thinking the 93-02 camaros were badass. i think our 4th gens will be to them how chevelles are to us(since they were badass but no longer around) and all these stupid retro cars will be the camaro equivalent to us.
