So I was headed back from the gym this evening sitting at a stoplight and I look in the mirror and see and guy and girl on Harley's sitting behind me. The guy revs it a couple times, probably because he assumed that everyone on the street wanted to hear it(I am really, really sick of hearing every Joe on a Harley try to scatter their engine at every stoplight, parking lot, and underpass). So anyways, the light turns green and I stand on it a little because that's just how I am. A little further down the road we catch a red light together, with him and his girl to the right of me. The light turns green and he launches the bike, while I take off slowly and then stand on it. I couldn't hear my own car over the racket next to me, but by the top of second gear he was a car and a half back and fading. I put on the binders and slow for the light up ahead, and once again they're next to me.

I turn to ask the guy what type of Harley it was(since they all look the same to me. It was definately NOT a Sportster) but he is looking straight ahead and won't turn to look at me. I figured he was done, but apparantly he felt a re-match was necessary because he brought the revs up and waited for the green. When the light changed he launched the f**k out of it, and I took of easy. I thought for a second and decided what the hell, I'll run him again. He had a fair lead, but by the top of first we were even, and the 1-2 shift tatooed ten feet of rubber into the asphalt as I powered by. By the top of second I had a good one car lead and decided any more was just showing off, so I threw out the anchor and slowed to the speed limit. THEN the guy and his girl perform the oh-so-awesome ricer fly-bye on me, but by that time I was too busy laughing my a$$ off I barely noticed. I'm still sitting here wondering how much s**t his girl gave him for losing, but I'm sure he had a saddle bag full of excuses. Anyways, thanks for reading all this drivel, and yes, I know there are Harleys out there that would hand me my a$$ on a silver platter, and I really don't care. Maybe I'll run into the guy again and actually have the bottle in my car!

 

Yeah, that would be awesome, but my car ain't gonna even come close to beating a "fast" bike. I was just happy to "shut up" one of those Harley guys. As I said earlier, I'm just sick and tired of hearing their owners raping the ever living s**t out of their bikes every five seconds. They all sound the same to me, and any more it's like hearing a Honda with a six inch fart cannon.

I know how it can be suffering through half a page of "so this gurl hafd a stnag with flowmastrs and stuff and said ti was making like 470 horspwr whick is kool and stuff so we raced ad I wun and then I went to my buds hous adn he has a 2000 Honda with a turbo and nawzzz and stuff ands we raced but I lost ".

The chick was on her own bike. If she had been on the back of his bike I wouldn't have raced, because that's just stupid.

 

I had a guy try to race me on his Harley last month on the highway....man, I slaughtered that pig.

 

OK OK you all need to stop with the Harley hate. First of all, they are not fast bikes at all. The fastest is the V-rod and they don't compare to crotch rockets.

Whoever said "they all sound the same" really don't know ****. Harley's have a very distinct sound. They even have a patent on the sound because a while back someone (honda, kawasaki, one of them) tried to copy the sound of a Harley. I can tell if a bike is a Harley buy hearing it come down the road. I have an 05 Night Train and when me and some of the biker buds go out riding we have all sorts of punks trying to mess with us on our bikes. They just don't understand that Harley's are made to cruise. I'm sure there are a few Harley owners out there who think just because they have a bike they can beat any car on the road, and really those guys don't deserve to own Harley's.

Don't put down all Harley owners just because one made a bad impression on you.

 

my bad. as far as your original comments about their noise, i hate it but at the same time, it keeps the cops off my butt. no cats or muffler here but still quieter than the harleys that want to be loud. without them, id be the new local target.

 

of course there is a point when its too loud. my dad and I both have vance and hines on our bikes and yes they are loud buy by no means obnoxious. when its that loud its not even fun to ride.

 

To me they do all sound the same. Call me uneducated or hard of hearing, but there's only so many ways you can make a V-twin with straight pipes sound different from the rest. I know (most)Harley's are not fast bikes, and I never claimed that they were. I'm sure those of you who own them love the hell out of them, and that's great! Still, many, many of them are obnoxiously loud, and I know there is no need to crank the throttle at every opportunity. I know there are many riders out there who don't do that, but those that do seem to be the majority. I enjoy the sound of my car, and I'm sure there are people out there who cringe every time they hear me go by. Therefore I try to be as courteous as possible to others on the road and those who may be trying to sleep in their houses as I go by. It may sound like I'm putting all Harley's and their owners down, but I'm not. In fact, my mom works for the Vetters, who make many of the fairings and saddlebags and other things for Harley-Davidson. I worked for them for a couple years too back in the day. Ride safe!
