GTO vs C6

Went out looking for a run on Saturday night. It was cold and my bottle pressure was only at about 600 psi, so I knew I wouldn't be spraying anyone, but wanted stretch the GTO's legs anyway. After about 40 min. of cruising and not finding anything I gave up and headed home. Got on highway 26 and noticed a beautiful black c6 about a quarter mile ahead. Unfortunately he was really moving...doing at least 95, so it took me a few minutes to catch up to him. Had to miss my exit to do so. Finally got beside him doing about 95 and I was unsure if I should drop to 4th or just 5th (I've never started a race at 95 in this car). Put it in 5th to be safe and found out what a mistake that was. We both hit it and by 120 or so he had put 3 cars on me. I flashed my lights and backed down to the speed limit. Never saw him again. My first loss in the GTO I was hoping to go 73-0 like Z28stanger, but I guess not. I had my bottle open, but didn't try and spray with the pressure so low. Has anyone here sprayed at such high speeds? Is it safe for the engine? I'm gonna try and find this guy next weekend with a full, hot bottle, but I remember being told not to spray at such high speeds....is that true?

Spray away as long as you have N20 in the bottle. Speed doesn't matter but RPM does. If you don't have a window switch I would suggest getting one and setting it to come on no lower than 3K or so, and off before the rev limiter. BTW, if the GTO's gearing is anything like the F-body's fourth gear should be good to 120 MPH or so.

Thx for the info. I figured 4th would have been a better decision, but I'm new to the car and I've never been in that kind of situation with it. Guess I'll know better next time.

It's got a 3.42 rear end btw.

The GTO gears are bit more steeper than F-Bodys, and is nearly identical to Z06's gearing.

This isn't necessarily true. There is a lot more load on an engine at 110+ mph than there is from, say, 0-100 mph.

I wouldn't spray in 5th gear at 110-120 mph. Just my $.02.

When I was into Supras, I was told never to spray at high speeds....that's where I got the notion from. I didn't know if that translated over to Ls1's or not.

5th gear at 95? ACK, 3rd ends in my TA with 3.42's at 95. 4th would have been a great gear to start in... but rollin from 95 is way to high as it is.
