GTO with a Magnacharger

I've posted this encounter on other forums, but I thought I'd post it here too...

My wife and I were out for Christmas breakfast at the local I-Hop and were headed home when I pull up to a left-turn light to get on the Freeway. As I sit there a late model GTO pulls up to the right of me, both of us sitting first at the light with nobody behind us. I look over and this GTO has a MAGNACHARGER emblem above the GTO badging on the drivers side fenderwell, so I'm thinking this guy, who looks to be in his late 20s, might want to show up my C5 Z06, since I know Maggie'd GTO's are putting out about 475 rwhp. We both take the turn normally, and then when the merge lane, which is 3 cars wide, straightens out, I punch it and row through the gears. By the time I hit the freeway I'm doing about 100 mph and the guy has been sitting right at my rear bumper the whole time. If it wasn't the the jump that I took, the roles might be reversed, so he has a very quick GTO. Oh, I *think* it's silver colored, like my Z06, and the MAGNACHARGER emblem is red.

I wanted to give the guy a thumbs up, but my wonderful stock GM clutch pedal stuck to the floor and I was trying to get the pedal pulled up and shift into 5th, all the while merging onto the Freeway, so the guy probably thinks I'm the "typical" Vette owner who wouldn't give him props. I tried to catch up after we settled down to cruising speed, but there were too many cars in the way and my exit was coming up fast, so I didn't push it because I don't do that stupid F&F crap.

It was a nice looking car, and I think he had 2 people with him, and like I said, I think it would have been reversed had we gone with 3 honks. At the time the rev limiter on my car was set to 6K because it started to lean out above that rpm and has since been re-tuned after I got a KB BAP installed. Based on the dyno graph of my original tune, at 6K I was at about 480 rwhp, so I'm guessing he was around the same with his PD blower. Oh, the funny part was that my wife, after I slow down to 70 mph, said "oh, that was fun" but didn't realize we had been racing... she thought I was just merging really quickly.

Just wondering. I didn't catch it in the post, but was it a 2004 (LS1) or 2005 ~ 2006 (LS2) GTO?

Either way, good run!

I don't know enough about the GTO to have any idea what year it was. It was very clean looking and obviously well kept, but that's about all I know about the car. I registered on a GTO forum (LS1GTO?) and asked in the FI section if anyone could identify this GTO but no luck.

The LS2's have a couple of hood scoops, kinda looks like those cheap stick on ones. Thats the easiest way to tell.

It had the hood scoops, so I guess it was an LS2.

Nice race!! That's one quick GTO considering your weight advantage. He was probably over 500 rw to keep up like that.

Yes, a very quick GTO indeed. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for this car when driving, but I haven't seen it since Christmas, so he was probably just visiting the area.

Today a truck, of all things, tried to get me to run on the Freeway. I was busy taking a picture of the road ahead and I didn't notice him until he floored it and took off. It looked like it had the old SuperBee stripes around the rear of the truck... yellow stripes on a black truck, so I'm guessing it was a Mopar with a Hemi.
