I work at a motorcycle shop first off and we have a bunch of guys come bye with some bad *** cars. My boss is my cousin and he has a 71' Z28 camaro with a 406ci, T400, 4.10 gears, 2800 stall. Its really bad and he has only ran it once on the track and pulled a 7.43 on street radials. Anyways I am always going on with him about busting him when I get my n20 fuel solenoid back. The other day, he had a friend of his with an 88' 5.0 GT convertable with upper and lower Cobra intake, x303 cam, +30 over, CAI, 4.10 gears, tremec T5, BFG's street slicks, with him and he had 8.28, I think in his window from the strip the night before. He runs consistant 8.20's in this car all the time. My cousin gets us to line them up right out in front of our shop. When they asked me if I wanted to run him, I really didnt want to run him with my tires cold and motor cold and he'd been riding around all day, but crunk up and within ten seconds, we were lined up side by side and I was in the suicide lane. I should have at least burned my tires off to get them hot......but didnt.
My cuz was beside us and we had a good 1/8 mile of straight road and when he dropped his hat, we both took off fast with him not spinning at all and I was spinning hard through first and through most of second but never did fall back to more than my nose at his back tires. Ended up just as I got into third and started coming by, he hit his fourth and hit his brakes with him just ahead by a fender....I blew by him right as he was letting out of it.... But he took me!!! By a little, anyways! We turned around, went back to the shop and we both gave each other props and he was real cool and told me that I would pull low 8's on my motor with traction, low 7's with my N20. I tried to get him to run again and he wouldnt do it...said he had to go. his car was sweet, had a SS looking hood and saleen wing with draglite rims. He said that we could do it again sometime next week.....But I had to go and fry my clutch trying to burn off second gear
!!! Surprised that my stock clutch lasted a year behind modded engine!! Gonna go back with a ram clutch this time! Got to wait for this weekend to get money for the new clutch! That sucks......
