gn gets pulled on the freeway...

on my way to a job interview this morning, and fearing that i may be late, i'm crusing down a local freeway in very light traffic at around 90. of course at this speed i'm all eyballs- checking the mirrors every 5 secs and scanning on-comming traffic intently. i notice a gn coming up behind me going a good 10 mph faster than i am.

well, i am fully aware of what these cars are capable of even lightly modded, so basically i'm scared. i figure using my cars taller gearing is gonna be my only hope, so i let him get within 5-8 carlengths of me and i bust it! my car drops into third and i stop his pull. he gets after it as well and i slowly pull on him to the top of third to the tune of 3-4 more cars, and then into 4th, a few more cars to 150+ (didn't look at the speedo) when i let off because of upcoming traffic. i drop down to a more judicious 70 mph, but he just hangs back, not coming any closer.

the weak-assed top end pull of teh LS1!

In reality, you didn't pull on anything. You did what ricer's love to do. Cant say good kill when you hammer it when he's 8 cars back.......

hmmm... well, he was 5-8 cars back and closing on me going at LEAST 10 mph faster. i busted it, and got back up to his speed which gave him plenty of time to get after it, as well. by the time we were both on it he was a good bit closer to me than when i went. and then i pulled him.

guess i shoulda let him carry his momentum.

actually. by the time we were both on it, our speeds were very closely matched. i'm not sure why that is hard for some to visualize.

so, you think i would have gone down had we gone from door handle to door handle at 100?? hell, i prolly tripled the distance between our cars by the time traffic got in the way.

if you wanna race someone at 100-150 mph speeds in close quarters on a bumpy freeway, be my guest. i prefer a little breathing room at those speeds. i'd wager that a full 98% of the street racers out there are unfamiliar with the handling dynamics of their vehicle at speeds over 130, or would know how to handle a situation properly at those speeds were one to occur. and, for all you or i know, that gn could have been sporting autozone brand maypops with the belts sticking out and 25psi in each, or perhaps something even worse.

Had you waited till he got even, he would have had a big advantage. The way I see it, if you were farther ahead of him at the end of the race then at the beginning, you won. Good kill.
