Fun run with friend's LS1
Fun run with friend's LS1
Hey,
Not much of a story but here goes. Few weeks ago after I just got my LTs on, my friend uncharacteristically (spelling?) took his car out. He doesn't take it out too much, cleans it a hell of a lot tho, but that's neither here nor there. We're cruising around, nice night not many ppl on the road. So we're on the highway, nobody around for a while, head around a bend and there's a slight incline. We sit next to each other around 55mph and hit it. Much to my surprise through most of 3rd gear (which I started in, DUMB
) he wasn't putting any ground on me. Once it got to around I'd say 4750-5k RPM, that's when he started to pull a little, shifted hard to 4th and the pull stopped, then I FLEW by him like he was sitting still... he missed the 3-4 shift. All in all I was pleased, I figured from what I've read that he would've dumped all over my car, but that wasn't the case. We swung back around and chatted some more, he commented how all he could hear was my car even with his windows up. He's got an 02 WS6, 6spd, Corsa, SLP Lid, Smooth bellows, !Baffles. I've got what's in the sig. I'm sure if the race had gone further it would've gotten uglier, but whatever. I kinda knew what the outcome would be beforehand but it was all in good fun.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Nicely done. I love hearing people rave about how "loud" the corsa is, haha, GMMG baby! I guess I would have done about the same as you, considering our mods are nearly identical. Good strong run, a few more mods and youll be pulling nicely on him. How about a LPE Supertube and some 1.6 RR? Where are your mods headed next? Videos are always nice too. Wait till the LS1 guys read about you staying even with a 02 WS6, without full bolt ons.

Nice kill.
Forgive me , but what type of car do you have?
Your name says supra, but the sig parts dont follow that of a supra....unless Im wrong because I dont know a ton about them.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Thanks guys.
Mikie, I've got what's in my sig on a 94 Trans Am 6spd. My name says supra because at the time I joined I had a supra, but no longer.
Dustin, next up are some wheels/tires, some suspension stuff, and probably some 1.6s. I was gonna do a cam, but after piecing it all together I'm just gonna wait till spring. And yea, not full bolt-ons and he didn't run away from me. If it makes a difference, if it was a 98-00 with similar mods I think it would've been even closer (no LS6 intake, I hear it makes a nice difference but then again I own an LT1
). Prior to smooth bellows and !Baffles he put down 318rwhp. I look forward to running all our cars at the track in the spring.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Hahahaha! Nah we haven't been, this past season he was 17 (track requires 18), and I got my car at the end of the season. Next season however we're all gonna go to the track plenty of times and have some fun.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Psh yeah right... Like an LS1 can be beat
You terrible cannibal, how can you beat up on your own kind like that!
j/k
Good run, I bet that GMMG sounds awesome with LTs. Chambered exhaust is good stuffs.
Oh, and jb, all I see in your sig is your mods, no mention of your car?

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Dammit I don't know why I left out my actual car in the sig. It's a 94 6spd with 116k miles on the clock... Yea it's just broken in
RRs are coming in a few weeks I'm sure there will be some more runs, I'll try to get vids next time.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
I cant help but wonder why you havent invested in a cold air induction kit? That alone is worth 12rwhp and some extra rwtq. Anyways, I can vouch for the GMMG and LT's sound, its incredible so say the least. Very demanding and mean sounding. jbsupra89t, looks like our mod lists are just going to become more similar, next for me is wheels/tires, suspension, and 1.6RR. Good luck with you future races.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Heh, call me crazy, but yes, even my friend is always telling me about CAI kits... In fact, I probably AM selling myself short. But in short, I'm planning a lid setup when I get a WS6 hood... which wont be for a while. Hmm now that I think about it, I'll probably pick up a used CAI if I can find one, every little bit helps. After I sort out an "issue" with a refund and sell my Y-pipe I'll be doing the !CAT thing... Yea our mod lists should be getting quite similar shortly. Trying to find wheels/tires at the moment actually. Thanks for the comments guys.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Well I was also holding off for a lid set-up with an Ultra Z hood, but since it was going to be awhile, I just decided to get a LPE CAI for the moment and get the lid when I get the hood. The CAI actually helps more than a little bit, Lingenfelter claims 12rwhp on a bone stock car with just adding their Supertube. I think thats pretty substantial, many have gained 2-3 tenths with just a CAI. For $160 bucks and the largest Conical K&N filter for the LT1 on the market, its a damn good deal. Just out of curiousity what wheels/tires are you looking for?

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Whatever I can find in 17x at least 9" wide. This would include ZR1/SS wheels, WS6 silver wheels, and whatever else looks good. I dont want polished, because they're more expensive, same goes for chrome. Maybe I'm stingy, but most deals I see have polished/chrome at least a few hundred more than equal silver wheels.
I'm gonna throw some nittos on there because I had great experiences with them on my previous car. I noticed LPE *HAD* a sale on the supertubes, sadly I missed it tho. Oops, LPE is the only place to get it from I'd imagine, maybe that's a dumb question.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Yea pretty much, I have never seen them sold elsewhere. As far as the wheel/tire combo it sounds like a good configuration. I am still trying to decide whether to do Chrome or just stick with Silver. For sure something 17x9+ like yours though. Perhaps some nice SS 10 spokes. I am not sure on tires yet, I havent gotten deep into research about the different ones. Depends on the cost too. Good luck though, you'll need all the grip you can get, which would be great especially if the LS1 buddy doesnt.

Re: Fun run with friend's LS1
Good race.
I would also recommend getting the mods going on that LT-1 especially if your friend is putting down 320ish to the ground ! You know you can make your car faster by removing weight from the car. Cheap way for free HP.
spare, jack, tools, floor padding, etc...
