man i have been waiting a while to go against one of these, dont know why but i have. anyways yesterday a buddy of mine and me were heading down a 4 lane road when i pass a s2000 driven by a dude around my age, 20, with his g/f. i was messin with them for a min or so before i finally give it half throttle and speed up, we were in a hurry to be somewhere. next thing i know he comes speeding up in the left lane and tries to pass me, i notice just in time and punch it to get us even then start pulling ahead till around 85ish maybe 90 and have 5 or so car lenghts on him. lol i thought these cars were quicker? maybe it was an older one like a 2000 or somethin. it had no spoiler so idk if thats a non-performance package from the factory or not but i spanked him. im starting to love my car

I've been wanting to stomp one of those myself. I lined up with one in a cop infested area last summer and when he looked over I just gave the guy thumbs up. The guy just kind of looked away shaking his head. Maybe he knew what a Z28 can do and thought I was being a jerk?

Anyway, I took his reaction as disrespect and I wanted to turn off the T/C and launch on him but I didn't want to risk a ticket. If I ever get a chance to line up with him again in a different part of town I'd like to give him thumbs up again and say, "nice Miata!" and then leave him by 10 bus lengths while his 160 ft-lbs are gasping just to get into the power band. For an S2000 to have any kind of chance at all against much of anything it would have to be from a roll and it would help to have a big turbo and/or some laughing gas.

 

A magazine test said something like if you don't launch them at 5k rpm, they take like 8 seconds to hit 60. I don't care how fast it is once it's moving; I can't own something that's gutless down low.

 

I used to frequent the S2K boards awhile back.

They typically act like high 13's is the norm...that was until one day I asked to see time slips for all these supposed stock high 13 second cars.

Out of the whole bunch I believe one guy was able to...the rest had excuses.

The typically run high 14's on a good day.

I guess if you get real preppie guys that do not know **** about cars...they are bound to think their **** is fast. I even had one guy yapping about how he could beat my mid 12 second Lightning with his S2K being stock. He had no clue.

I don't know the specs.... no time to look em up right now, but I doubt that. A friend beat one bout a year ago with a V6 camaro that had CAI and a cat-back and thats it, by about 2 or 3 cars to ~90mph I think. Don't know what yr it was either tho.
Maybe the guy couldn't drive, I don't have any experience against them myself. Just wouldn't expect it from that car.
