Embarrassing loss for an F-Body

My friend Robert bought a 85 Firebird the other day with the carb'd 305 and he wanted to race my Z28 but I told him it wouldn't be fair cause I'd murder him.
So I took my 2006 Chevy Uplander and raced him LOL, We started off and he got the lead just a bit but I caught up and eventually passed him, The Uplander is governed at 108 mph so I left off and pulled over and he honestly looked like he was going to cry that he just got beat by a van. I said "Don't worry man, at least it's a new van that's in really good shape and looks good"
I told him to drop a 350 TPI in there and then I'll run him with my 95 Z although I'll still kill em LOL.

Ouch I feel for the guy. I owned a 86' Camaro Berlinetta which had the carbed 305. I went as far as straitpipes for mods, but that was it. I raced a beat up 90's Dodge Neon my boss drove, barely beat him. I started looking for a new car after that...and found my Z

I'm sure there are people who can make the 305 fast, but I had no love for that motor.

Oh, good kill lol

My first Camaro was an '84 carbed 305. Thought it was fast until my buddy with a Beretta 3.1 V6 beat me.

the point of it mostly is that wit the early 80's carbed 305.. a 4 cylinder puts out more power than those things did..Stock... It's really not even a decent comparative between most cars of that particular time frame to cars today. Back when it was new, it was fast lol. Most go with a 350 since there is a larger aftermarket, and you can get decent numbers. You can get very good times out of a 305... IF you have tons of money to throw at it. But just cheaper to go with a 350 or 400. for a carbed. Or if you really want to get into the new stuff go with an LSx block and go with the injection or carb it. Overall If you have the same drivetrain in a thirdgen over a 4th gen, the third will more than likely edge out and win. only because it is lighter.

My mother's 86 Cougar with the "all new fuel-injected" 5.0 made a whopping 150 horsepower. It was one of the quicker cars on the road at the time. It had the performance 15 inch wheels with 60-series rubber too.

cn97z28 - don't worry about losing to the Beretta back in the day. They were freakishly fast; much more so than their 135hp 3.1 liter would lead you to believe. I saw a 3.1-powered Corsica run like a 10.40 in the 1/8th just a few years ago which is still better than a lot of the typical "high school parking lot" cars do today.

The Uplander is pretty damn quick for a van as well..Surprises me how it can roast the tires when you pull out

The uplander is pretty quick for what it is. I rented one while snowboarding in Banff and it had no problem cruising at 160 (kph.. not miles!)

If you want quick cars, just put lower gears, iv seen a 305 stockish keep up with a stock 94 z with lower gears.

Well I did end up racing him with my Z28...Let's just say he was so far back I almost couldn't see his lights, it was a murder.
He's insisting that the 82 Z28 he's getting with the crossfire injection motor will absolutley smoke my car, I'll agree with him and then he'll find out the hard way

Exactly my plan...the CFI in the 82 Z28 has what...165 hp...So I have about a 130 hp advantage, plus weight and other attributes. He's got a high 15 second to low 16 second car to my high 13 second Z

Old F-bodies like that should be bought up as project cars and swap in an LS based crate motor and T-56. The body styles are classic and it would be really cool to see one with a great paint job and some real muscle under the hood.
