That's not all together true. Do all the common mods on the Cobra and you might see 500 rwhp. There's a lot of blown LS1's making way more than that....just not on the stock guts like the Cobra.

Last year I was at Atco and there were a few other '03/'04 Cobras racing.
A guy in a black coupe had "all the goodies" (at the time, there are more "goodies" now). He had headers, midpipe, catback, pullies, CAI, flash tuner (Predator or SCT, can't remember which) and was on 17" DR's. He was running mid-12's. I saw him go 12.5. I tried talking to him early in the evening, and honestly, his "holier than thou" attitude led me to just walk away. The funny story is I ran a 12.6 that night and he ended up coming over to me to see how I was running those times in a stock car on F1's. I gave him a few pointers and he ended up going 12.2 on another pass.
Lots of mods and hp doesn't automatically equal low ET's.

500+rwhp '03/'04's are now commonplace and very easy to achieve. A swap to a Whipple/KB is good for mid-500's with no other mods. A Whipple/KB with a catback and upgraded MAF (stock MAF pegs around 475-500rwhp) and injectors (stock injectors max'd around 550rwhp) will be in the ~575rwhp range. Add a catback and they'll hit 600rwhp. Furthermore, they'll actually get better mileage than stock with a good tune and have the same street manners.
