z-28 v/s lightning
guy up the street from me was talking trash for a while about how bad his 02 lightning would spank my "weak little 350's butt".so earlier today on a deserted stretch of road here close to the afb,i handed him his blown 5.4 to him on a silver ls-1 plate.i know racing on anything but the drag strip is bad but believe me this place is at the butthole end of the afb and since the guy is the first sgt. of the s.p. unit here on base,getting into trouble was not very likely.just thought ya'll might wanna know in case you run up on a lightning anytime in your future.

nope.fipk and corsa exhaust.those trucks are not as fast as you may htink unless they have been modded.o2 lightning rated from the factory 360 hp at the flywheel .to light in the *** end for stock tires to try and run with almost any lightly modded ls-1 car if the driver has his crap together.not saying these trucks are slow but thats what they are a truck not a cobra mustang.if you run up on one that has a pulley and has been dyno tuned you have a problem.

The Lightnings must be slower in Florida. Here a Lightning is good for high 13s stock. Chevy doesn't have a truck that will come anywhere near that stock. I'm not knocking your truck in any way and I believe you won the race but I suspect that either something was wrong with the lightning or the driver was really lame.
Prohunter I apologize....I misread your original post and thought you were also in a pickup. You are absolutely correct about a 4th gen with an LS1 beating him. It should have been pretty bad too.

it was ugly.those trucks are fast....for a TRUCK.he couldnt believe how bad i spanked him either.he said he was going to hit the ford motorsports book and come back and try again.

I'll bet it was. You should have had him covered by about a second. Even with the pully and all other mods they are still just 12 second trucks. Put a convertor in your car and you can still outrun them. They weigh three tons, have limited traction, and have the areo dynamics of a barn door. But for a truck, they are pretty cool.
advice please
you made the comment about the converter.the guy that did my exhaust does work on z-28's and vettes.i mentioned the converter deal to him and he said i should get a gear{3.90 or lower} first.i dont think i am ready for that until i make more hp.what do you think gear or converter first
if your looking for the best bang for your buck, look no further than a converter and some sticky tires...You'll pull nearly 2-3 cars outta the hole against almost everyone...it takes a lot of HP to reel in an LS1 that gets a 2-3 car length headstart

Yank is the cadillac of convertors. TCI, Vigilanty, and Midwest also make excellent convertors. Best bang for the buck right now seems to be Midwest. But you can't go wrong with any of those brands. Get a 3200 to 3500 stall with about a 2.0 str for a moderately modded car that is daily driven. When you first get it, it will seem a little loose but after a few days itjust seems normal. If you get a smaller convertor you will wish you had gotten a bigger one. I've been there and done that. I'm running a 4200 stall with a 3.0 str and it is really loose! It gives me 1.5 60' times but it is a bear on the street. A 3200 to 3500 stall should knock a half second of your quarter mile times easily. My son is running a 3800 stall with a 2.5 str in his 99 Z28. With 85,000 miles on it, long tube headers, a used G5 cam, and a used LS6 intake he runs 7.6 eighth mile times with 1.6 60" times.
