camaro vs. mustang

Tonight I was driving and saw a mustang gt it was the anniversary edition in the mid 90's. I have a '96 camaro m6 with exhaust and ram-air and he caught up behind me and i downshifted into 3rd and pull away a long ways so I wasnt sure if he was trying or not then he caught up to me pretty fast after i slowed down and then i stopped at a stopsign and punched it again and the same thing happened and he was a long ways back at about 100 then i slowed down and he caught up to me but then turned off I am just wondering if i should have beaten one this badly or was he not trying.

The mid 90's Mustangs are dogs. I think they only put out around 190-200 rwhp but I am not tottaly sure on that. I am not suprised you wooped him. Congrats on the kill. You should be beating even newer Mustangs pretty good. I dont even mess with them anymore unless it is a Cobra. Peace, Dustin.

or it just took unitil 96' when the 4.6 l dohc cobra put out 300hp/tq to own all the stock z's or t/a's...just to let you know(and many forget) they have been keeping up/or winning since 96

All of the previous posts were pertaining to mid- 90's GT's not being able to keep up stock for stock, NOT Cobra's.

I guess you just felt the need to randomly throw out some info, which made no sense considering even a previous poster noted that Cobra's weren't to be taken lightly. I wouldn't say that 96-98 cobra's OWN all stock z's or T/A's. They are a drivers race with the edge going to the cobra. So to state they "own all stock z's or t/a's" is full of you know what.

I give you credit though...for atleast slowing down the normal parade of F-Body drivers stating how they own every mustang on the road.

First you say 96 Cobra's own all stock z's or t/a's and then you say that they (96+ Cobra's) have been keeping up or winning since 96.

Those statements contradict each other. Which is it? I know the answer and the one above isn't it.

After looking at your signature it surprises me to hear that you would say something like that. I feel sorry for you after having been owned by all 96 and above Cobra's while you were stock.

I never, I say again, never had that problem in any of my LT1's.

I wouldnt say own..though the dohc's w/ a good driver were faster...Your average 6spd LT1 usually hit 101 maybe 102 stock...dohc's were in the 103-104 mph range...A bad cobra driver can easily make it a mid/ high 14 second car... a monkey on the other hand can drive a fbody to a decent time.

99 MPH def is not the average stock 6 sp time. It was more like 101-102 like antz said.

Re: camaro vs. mustang

To the best of my knowledge late 90's Cobra's with the dohc were usually high 13 sec. to low 14 sec cars which is m6 lt1 territory. LS1's will usually take older Cobras. Mach 1's are more or less the LS1's equal due to better gears (3.55's), 330 tq/ 310 hp, 6800 redline and a live axle.

Wow, thats practically unheard of! My 14 was at about 1000 feet, so it would've been a bit quicker at sea level...but still no 13.5

Props man!
