bolt-on 01 gt, stock 02 transam ??

My uncle has a 2001 mustang Gt with k&n, flowmaster catback, pulleys, short-throw shifter, and 3:73 gears car has 40k miles on it, I am going to be racing my cousins 02 transam which is stock besides a k&n filter 14k mile car. Who do yall think would win from a roll and from a dig??? The mustang driver is a little better than average. And the transam is an a4 so I won't have any problems.

Thanks - Charlie

Im gonna say that it will be pretty close. If you both launch the same, the Trans Am should edge him out.

It has a K&N FILTER, not cold air intake? If so, theres next to no gain there. Cat back on an already dual exhausted car. Not really much there either other than sounding mean. Pulleys, supposedly give about 10 at the wheels, but who knows ? So it has a short throw shifter, and some gears. The gears arent all the aggressive either. Its not unccommon to see mustangs running gears well into the 4.X:1 range. I would have to say this should be a win for the TA. Especially if the race goes above 100mph.

A 2001 Mustang with catback, pulleys and gears?

Trans Am takes him for sure, given equal drivers.

From a dig, I'd say it would be a little closer but if you race on the highway, it'll be TA all the way.

The mustang has 3.73s with a 5 speed (?) I take it, and the Trans Am is a 2.73, A4 car. The LS1 makes more torque and develops it at a more rapid pace, earlier, on the dyno charts, than that of a SOHC 4.6. That, in turn, will help make up for loss of gearing on behalf of the ole LS1. If that mustang bites good and hard and that LS1 is sitting there spinning, have fun catching up. I ran an 03 GT in my hawk, and he was out a good length before i stopped spinning. And hell it wasn't till around 80-90mph when I finally started to roll on past him.

In any event, its a clash between the old mustang and fbody, so have fun and as always, BE SAFE!

That GT is barely competition for a good LT1. Kick his a$$ and report back the good news.

There are very few Mustangs that I've seen and/or raced that have really impressed me or been a threat. Until they start bolting on superchargers, they're crap. I've seen way too many 14 and 15 second Mustangs to get all excited over one with CAI, catback, and gears.

definatly depends on the trans am's driver. i ran an 02 gt with all those mods plus radials. He hooked better then me obviously but i had him by a good 3 lengths by 105 ( this was before stall and tranny). So if the trans am driver is decent then the trans am all the way!

i dont have a supercharger and run faster than you without juice!

id say it will be close from a dig, and as people have stated the top end will be crushed by the chevy!

youre right, HOWEVER i wouldnt say mustangs are crap w/o superchargers seeing as how his is .08 quicker. my run was with street tires at 13.1. DR's gave me that 12.8 at 114 which is capable of a lot more IF i could drive it!

True. That's why I have a nice big power adder
