Unhappy Bad snake bite!

Yesterday I had a run in with a 03'-04' Cobra (not sure which). Anyway, he notices my exhaust and wanted to run. We get on the highway and pace each other just waiting to see who's gonna gun it first so (already knowing the power of the new cobra) I floor it! It didn't take him long to jump in front, as I shift to 4th he's already about 3-4 car lengths ahead!!! I'm like now I'm just going for the hell of it curious to see if he still has power to stretch the distance. All the way to the top of 4th the distance remains the same about 4 car lengths. We do this 2 more times and the results were exactly the same. This was the first time my car felt drastically underpowered. This was the second race I've lost, the first was to a T/A with a zr1 swap and that was a pretty close race!!!

Yeah, you were vastly overpowered. Must have been fun. You must be at about 285-290 rwhp, and he was looking at 340-360 rwhp I believe.

More like 380rwhp! Most are that that level after break in. Kind of amazing for a car thats only suppose to have 390 to begin with!

380rwhp is pushing it a lil to much, properly worn in cobras usually dyno at high 360s

I thought the LT5 could'nt fit in the f-body engine bay
Do you mean Grand Sport (LT4) swap?

Thumbs up Re: Bad snake bite!

According to this poll of almost 200 '03/'04 Cobra owners, over 54% dyno'd over 370rwhp. 23% between 360-369rwhp, about 13% dyno'd less than 359rwhp and only ~4% less than 349rwhp.
So I'd say '03/'04 Cobras usually dyno over 370rwhp.
However, I don't race on a dyno, so even though my car only pulled 364rwhp, I was more concerned with how it would get down the track.
Evidently, it got down pretty well.

I'd say 12.6 is scootin' along pretty good.

No offense, but if it was a close race than it was not a LT-5. You have a lightly modded LT-1 and is still NO challenge for a LT-5. Good run with the snake.

Unless the guy can't drive. A na dohc engine is a lot harder to drive than a torque monster LT1.

Anyway, good loss to the Cobra. I wouldn't expect any near stock LT1 to keep up with the new Cobras from a roll.

Please explain...because i have driven DOHC Cobras and they drive like any other V8. You just need to beware that the cobras like high rpms, so dont start in too high a gear when racing from a roll. You step on it and go. Shift when it gets to redline and bang the next gear. LT5's on the other hand make alot more tq/hp so its not as vital. An LT1 with a few bolt-ons should not hang close to another fbody with atleast 50-70hp more (LT5).
