99 TA vs 01 TA
99 TA vs 01 TA
ok i raced another TA LS1 finally. i lost by about a car. we went from a 40 mph roll to about 90 or so. his mods are lid/ filter, sub frame connectors, lowered about 2 inches, brand new tires (285s rear, 275s front), Borla exhaust, and manual with about 30,000 miles. i have lid, LT headers, borla exhaust, auto with 67,000 miles. why did i lose? is it b/c he i manual and im auto or could it have to do with his brand new tires and my almost bald tires. btw i do need new tires any suggestions? anyways it was a good race even though i lost. i dont know what would have happened if we went to say 120 or if we went from a stop.

I'd agree with what the guys above said, & add one or two more things as well: lowering the car helps (at least theoretically) because it reduces the frontal area - less effective surface area, so you "waste" less HP pushing through the air. And from what I've read, the stock LS1 exhaust manifolds aren't nearly as bad as the old "log" manifolds used on classic cars, so your headers might not be helping you as much as they would on a carburetor-era engine..
And as far as tires, I really like my Firestone SZ50s - they're not cheap, but their wet-weather traction has saved me from wrinkling my sheetmetal twice now, so I figure I'm money ahead!
