99 Mustang Gt vs. 95 z28

Ok don't flame me for a who would win thread, please. One of my friends has a 99 Gt with 60k, 3.73's, cat-back magnaflow, hi-flow cats, K&N CAI that goes in the fender, short shifter, and your basic lowering suspension mods on street tires. My other friend has a 95 z28 with 140k, new clutch, short shifter, flowmaster muffler, K&N CAI, lowered on street tires, and thats basically it.
Who do yall think will win from a dig? And from a 30+ roll? Thanks.

Assuming decent drivers on both sides, and that the LT1's still running good @ 140k miles...
I'd guess the GT would get the jump, but with the LT1 eventually overtaking the GT down the road.

Why would the GT get the jump? The LT1 is lighter, more torqier, and has the same suspension mods Either way I think the Force is on the LT1's side

The LT1 is definately not lighter, not sure where you got that info from....If the kid can drive, Gt should win, but it wont be a blowout

I think it will be close. However, I place my bet on the GT.

My reason being that the LT1 has 140k miles and the GT has gears and a "real" catback.

Re: 99 Mustang Gt vs. 95 z28

K, I'll fill some of ya in on some facts since Ive owned a few LT1s and GTs... The GT is lighter, my 02 (auto) weighed in at 3315#s no driver my LT1Z weighed 35??#s (I forgot xactly) With 12K miles on the z it ran 14.2 @99, Bone stock my 02 GT bone stock ran 14.1 @ 98 with 10k miles on it (my auto GT was fast compared to most GTs and even 5spd GTs were not going to talk about my 04GT cause it was a dog). Now as for mods the GT the best thing for the 2v 4.6 is a gear with a wider tire. Mind you the GT and Z were both lower miles and still tight so your 140K mile might play a big part. There are many bolt-on for the GT that are usless like an intake (CAI), the only way to get any power outta an intake for a GT is to just drop in a K&N and take out the silencer in the fenderwell and the screen off the MAF. An xhaust will benifit the GT alittle better then the Z since its a true DUEL. But the main thing is the GTs gearing.
Heres a quick idea what my 02 could do with minor bolt ons, 3.73gear K&N, SC chip, off road H and cat back, 275 SO3s tires and someone that can drive it. My buddys 98ss lid catback. We lined up at the track and on the street with the same resaults I had him outta the hole then were even from 40-85 then he creeps up till he ahead at 95 and then pulled a car and a 1/2. The LS1s pull much harder then the LT1 from 3 gear and up so don't think you'll pull the GT hard as the speeds increase.
The LT1 does have little more power but not enough to over come the weight and the gearing plus the GTs HOOK way better so i'll have to say the GT has the advantage, but good luck and hopefully you'll out drive him for the win....

I realize that it probably doesn't matter but the your 93 Z had 265 hp rather than 275 hp correct? I believe GM didn't use a MAF until 1994 which was a 10 hp addition. I also believe your 02 GT was a factory freak. Not many 5 spds that are modded will run 14.1's much less an automatic.
However, the gears in the GT and the high mileage of the LT1 will probably hand the W to the GT but it will be close......Drivers Race.

Much as I hate to say it the GT will probably win from the hole. But then again it always depends on the driver. One missed shift in the mre modified car and you've got a race on your hand. As far as from a roll it would depend on who hit the throttle the quickest. I say tell em to run and let us know the results.

Yes your right about the 93Z but I know I said "STOCK" but it had a gear that the previous owner put in it so it wasn't 100% stock and at that time my buddy had a 96Z and another friend has the WS6 and not for anything my "93" ran right next to them if not in front a few times. 10 HP isn't a real big difference. BTW I thought the 93s wee rated at 275 not 265 and the 94 and up were 285?

Also yes I would say my 02 was a freak but ive seen other stock ones run in the 14.2 range and another one 14.1, but most stock one were between 14.3-14.5. You also gotta remember not all LT1s ran 13.9-14.1.....

Re: 99 Mustang Gt vs. 95 z28

i have a friend that has a 02 gt with intake, offroad y and flowmaster catback and his gt went a best of 14.5 and from a 55 roll we are even for a little bit then i pulled him slowly up top. My mods consisted of a flowmaster catback. My car averages 14.1 14.2 with the catback. No times with longtubes yet. His gt had a 2.2 60ft and my z is now consistant 2.0 60ft with new tires. Its hard to say who would really win.

...
275hp/325tq for '93-'95* LT1 fbodies
(no change in rating between '93 speed density and '94-'95 MAF cars)

*California A4 equipped cars got the dual cats in '95 (285hp) although it was never mentioned in ads, everyone else got the dual cats '96 however.

Ive seen Lt1's dyno from the 230's stock as high as the low 270's.. In no way were the underated anywhere near the Ls1's
