99 B4C vs. 99 Lightning
My frinds a BIG Mustang guy who hasnt driven a V8 in 10 years. He has a friend with a 99 lightning and the guy says its stock but he thinks it has a different pully b/c it runs at 10 lbs. of boost at WOT... I spin bad at the track for 10-15 ft. at the track but hook fine on the street... says it USED to have N20 also, cause it has a purge button ...What you guys think??? Should I try him??

BTW...My friend had an 89 Mustang gt with a "stage 2 chip" (WTF???) , and all I hear all the time is how he would stomp my car cause it was a 5-speed and I have an auto...he knows nothing at all of cars!! I just wanna know if I might be getting myself into something that will make me look foolish....My car will stall till about 2000 rpm before it engages. Maybe something with the police mods??? Car came from Florance Co. Sheriff's dept. here in S.C and I got to talk to him about my car and he says it was overhauled at 60,000 miles and they installed the LS6 cam and valvesprings....didnt say if it was resleeved, though. He says it has the same trans as the HD GM trucks...4L85e, I think. Bone stock this car went 8.8 @ 81 mph in the 1/8 with a 2.11 60 ft. on bald street tires. After Longtubes, ORY pipe , Slp Loudmouth
, Slp lid, free mods and about 15 psi on same crappy street tires, I went 8.2 @ 84.9 with a 1.89 60 ft. . Spinning was definately a problem after header install. Got short times down from a 2.02 that last night to 1.89 dropping from 30 psi to 15 and it was about high 60 degrees on the last runs, the first runs were in june in the 90's. Pretty good improvements I think!!!

You will annihilate the 5.0. I don't know anything about Lightning's though. I think they are high 13 second trucks but I could easily be mistaken.

yeah the mustang will be lucky to be putting down 225hp to the wheels...assuming it is only the "chip"
i think it would be kindda fishy to have the police install the LS6 cam, and the big heavy 4L80 tranny.
but anything is possible.
i think you need to work on your car and figure out what it ACTUALLY has!

Im not sure how to tell the difference between the 2 tranny's ....anyone know?? He said that the motor was overhauled because it had a bad knock after 50 thousand. Said he actually purchused the camshaft from GM himself to have it installed at the dept. because he wanted alittle more "ummph". Officer was very knowlegable on F-body's. He said this was a "reckless driving enforcement car" and he wanted more out of it after 50,000 miles. He said ALL their B4C's came with the HD trans...stalls to 2200 rpm, spins for a good 10 foot in second, and it wants to bark third, He says out of all thier B4C's that he's driven shifted like that. Also said that they didnt change the tune because these cars already have an agressive program flashed in the pcm. With only a handful of these cars made a year, I could see where these cars could come with a little more HD drivetrain, cause you know they get the crap beaten out of them. Ive gotten my NX wet kit sitting in the basement with new solenoids waiting to be bolted back up on my 91 rs
how bad would it be on my car to spray him with maybe a 75 shot. I built my LT1 motor for N20, but how do the LS1's stock hold up to the juice??? I just dont think I should need it, I mean that truck weighs what??? 4600 lbs?? Should I blast him with a 50 shot or so just to be safe??

your ls1 i easily trapping 107+ in the qtr. i am gathering that by your 1/8th mph. anyway with that the stang has nothing on you, and i believe you will edge the lightning out depending on how modded he is! good luck with both

Im gonna let him have it tonight if they come back over.....Whatpisses me off is my bud that talks all the crap doesnt even have it anymore....He drives a Mitsu. Diamante..lol..Thats what pisses me off....He wont even ride in my car but tells me how all these cars will smoke me. Heard that guy in the lightning leave and I couldnt hear the S/C whining when he got on it....maybe still stock...He's kinda shady about it... He also has a 94 GT with a 351 efi with a 150 dry shot...He runs 7.9 1/8 on motor, 6.8 with the N20...He knows his fords, so he might not be telling me everything. I dont see him pulling me over 80 mph at the most...But you never know... Ill let you guys know what happens if he comes back tonight!!

Pretty sure that the B4C's arent assembled at the same plant in Canada where f-body's were made...I have been told that they were contracted out like the SS's and Firehawks... Not but about 180?? of those cars were made a year. Would that Trans be too big to fit in a Camaro?? They might just beef up the 4l60 trans....Maybe in the programming??? I dunno....I Know that it will stall up to 2200 rpm before engaging. I am also the first owner besides the Co. Sheriff's dept. that has owned it. 70,000 miles and this trans shifts harder than my old 400 turbo in my old 68 firebird. How can I distinguish if its a 4l80e??? Could of swore that the officer said all of these cars come with that trans....Ask anyone on this site if thier B4C's dont shift hard as hell. I sure love mine!!! I was a six speed man till I drove this car! We have a 97 T/A on our carlot and it has an auto and doesnt shift NOTHING like my camaro does...And I have 17's compared to its 16's ....I always thaught that B4C's were just Z28's without the badges, but ask anyone who has one what they think...I work on a used car lot and get to drive all kinds of cars and this is one of the faster Ive driven.

Maybe would have done better if I would have cooled it down some. These runs were in the middle of June In 90+ degree weather and I just pulled in from driving there maybe 20 miles. Seems like everyone there was off. Raced one LS1 auto car that night that had Z28 markers and claimed it was a SC HP car and I trapped 81.9 and he trapped like 75.8 and my et was a 9.0? to his 9.5?. My first run was my best that night with a 8.8 @ 81.?? We had an 02 slp SS auto run 8.7? at 76 mph...had an 00 TA m6 run a 9.1 w/4.10's @ 78 mph and my good friends 98 Z28 m6 ran a whopping 9.6 @ 76.?? mph that night. Mind we all were running on street tires... Heck, I was spinning a good 20 feet on the 1-2 shift.... What bolt ons did you have on your LT1??? Pretty good times! Ive had it up to like 82.?? mph on another night, but my tires had been getting worse and I couldnt beat my 8.8 , but that was all in the summer. I raced at our track (Greer Dragstrip) just once after I modded it and That was in october in 70 something degree weather and got my 8.2 @ 84.9 and I didnt let it cooldown any then either. I believe the camshaft is why the headers woke it up so good. I didnt have bad traction issues stock, now I fry my tires and it still can cut a 1.89 60 foot...But spin second gear a good 15 feet. Im just about to shift into third as I go through the lights. I dont think its too bad for a 3.23 gear. It really takes off HARD in third. with a 3.73 gear and slicks I think i should easily get into the 7.??'s. That gear would get me into 3rd gear and I should pick up a little more mph...Not bad for a 9400$ car!!?

And the LS6 cam isnt really a huge cam is it?? It has a noticable different lick to it from one of my friends 98 Ram air T/A. We had a bunch of our friends comment on it. our mods are very similar and I can put him down by almost 2 cars to 100 and his is a six speed. But tonight Im wondering about this guy in the lightning,,,, Hoping they show up!!

oughta be close...but I think you might edge him out. The 10 lbs of boost on the gauge is do to a K&N filter drop in and gutted air box (done this before on mine). If he had a lower or upper pulley...His gauge needle would be pegged into the dash (Waaay past 10).

A friend of mine from work took her stock 99 Lightning up to a test and tune with me the summer before last. Her best time was 14.537 at around 97mph, but it was her first time at the strip. Another Lightning was there running 13.7-8 and he had CAI, pulleys, chip and exhaust -- not sure about headers. He launched it well with very little tire spin. Never got the chance to go side-by-side with her but my timeslips were a half second quicker with weak valvesprings -- peak hp at 5114rpm
