What do you guys think the outcome will be in the 1/4 mile at a prepared dragstrip? My Stang vs. dad's car in my sig. I will heat up the DRs big time and launch hard. He has worn 315/35/17 street tires.

 

the DR will give you the advantage...

if both were on equal traction...the LS1 i think would have you.

figure you've got 260hp stock plus 30hp in bolt ons
he's got 300hp plus 20hp in bolt ons...

...although the gears and weight reduction would help alot....

maybe a driver's race

 

I think he is gonna walk all over you...I could be wrong I guess, but the difference in between the two cars stock is huge. I see you getting him on the launch and him passing you up.

 

ls1 5.7 > 4.6

 

You can heat your dr's up from now til tommorow....all he needs to do is baby it outta the whole and not go up in smoke and a easy LS1 win. For someone so worried about drag racing im not understanding the 373's on a mod motor.

 

Id say thats a bit optimistic....more like 15-20...catback is pretty useless except for sound on a sohc, intake plenum & pulleys add a few hp each, and a tune on a otherwise pretty stock car isnt gonna give ya much

 

GT's dyno around 230whp, plus your intake and catback shoud be around 245-250whp. Z28 will be around 300+whp. You better get out of the whole quick cause the LS1 is coming hard.

 

My buddy has an 04gt with xpipe,plenum,cai etc it put down 247rwhp,
stock ls1's pull him up top quick, I think you will hold him off in the 1/8th
if you cut a 1.8 60 and your cuts a 2.2. to a 2.6 i think u might hold him off good luck, also when My Lt1 had cutout,cai,freemods,52mm throttle body, I was side by side my buddys 98 trans am everytime from a roll, he had a cutout and lid at the time, he would stomp me at the track tho lol

I figure that if I didn't have the gears and DRs. the LS1 would beat me by about 3 mph and 3-5 tenths. What do you guys think? I am hoping that with a really good launch and good shifts I can tie or hold off the LS1 through the 1/4 mile traps. If I can talk Dad into driving 45 minutes each way to the track, we will see what happens.

 

373's wont do much, you'll still probably loose by 1/2 second...The LS1 should atleast be able to cut 2.0-2.1's...if so your done...Theres no way your holding him off through the 1/4...LS1 will eat you up after the 1/8

 

I dunno Steve..Drags may help but I have seen stock LS1 auto's run 13.4's all day. Id say its gona be fairly close.

 

Since its you father's car, and you have easy access to it:
Try placing a 4" wooden block under his gas pedal....
That might give you the advantage you'll need, LOL!

 

Now you're thinking! Or I could yank loose a couple of spark plug wires so that thing is running on 6 or 7 cylinders. I did that once to a guy I didn't like. I had a slow *** '84 V6 Ranger 5-speed 4x4. He had a 2wd Mazda B2200 fuel injected pickup. I wanted a sure win, so I pulled loose a plug wire and easily won. He said, "I think something's wrong with my engine, guys." I put the wire back on after the race and didn't ever tell him. Pretty sh***y and underhanded, but I didn't like the guy.

 

The weight you took out will help but the LS1s gonna pull hard once it gets over 60mph.

 

So long as nothing is wrong with the LS1, and assuming he gets any traction at all, he'll kill you.
