He looked pretty stock to me. There's really no way one with appreciable mods would go down so easily. You passed that thing like it was a Geo Metro.

Remember, they were 92 mph cars in stock form. That's pretty sad by today's standards - even my mom's Hyundai traps 99-100. My Dodge truck could probably handle a stock turbo DSM. 15+ years of automotive evoloution will do that to ya.

I have no idea if he was stock, but he had the 8 inch tachometer, which we all know adds 50 hp.

That's what I meant -- the turbo models had a whopping 195-210hp depending on year and trapped all of 92-93 mph at best. Like many cars, they're so cheap to buy now that most are beaters owned by people who are clueless about performance.

Oh, except for the Big Ben model tach

I cant really claim the win because we was going from a roll and he said "go at this rpm" because his car was not running right, and I dont know where his "rpm" is when our cars are completely different so he said go when I go. Was all jacked up lol. If his car was running right, id lose by quite a bit.

How/why do you think you bent a rod?

My biggest loss ever was to a heavily modified talon (that looked stock) that sprayed me. He not only jumped me a few cars at the line, he continued to pull several carlengths on me after that

Iv since changed my mind to a callasped lifter, oil preassure droped to zero, knocking coming from under drivers side valve cover.

Yah, and then the owner spends a few grand, and then can light all 4 tires from a roll... <- No joke. Anything with a 4G63T and AWD can easily be made into a street monster. The modern example being the EVO.

I posted my disparaging remarks above knowing full well the car's potential. I've owned quite a few of them since buying my first 92 Eclipse new. I've had them in every possible flavor - GSX, Galant VR4, 89 Mirage turbo, convertible GST, and even a GS non-turbo. The problem is when people think they're fast without doing those mods to them.

It's nothing against those cars really; it's more a statement on how fast "normal" has become in the nearly 20 years since the introduction of the first DSM -- and nearly 10 years since the last "worthwhile" model was produced.
