'97 Cobra vs. '96 Formula

There is a highschool kid that lives in my area and his parents just bought him a '97 Cobra. Now he's talking about how he's probably going to smoke me. I think i'm going to have to line them up sometime. I think i'm going to hand it to him. What do you guys think?

I think you got him for sure if he's stock.

I had a buddy in highschool with a 97 cobra with bassani cat-back and a drop in air filter and we ran on several occasions. First run was a dead stop I took him pretty good off the line and had 1-2 cars on him until 110. Second time we went from a 25 punch,He sat rigtht next to me from about 25-80 then from 80-100 he edged me out(his rear tire at my front bumper). Third time we went from a 50 roll with him right next to me till 90 the I started to pull him by maybe like 1 car till 105 or so. The 97 cobra's are fast but really need to be beaten on to show the true power of that DOHC motor but still im sure a good running lt-1 shouldnt have a problem running one down... BTW when we raced all I had was a cut-out and CAI. So i would bet money that you will beat him but not by very much.

Thats gonna be a pretty close race i think you wil jump out in front of him right away cause of the gears but if he knows how to drive that 5 speed i think hell pull on you toward the end to take the win cobras came with more powerfull motors that year than your formula.but dude dont back away ***** up, you know if you beat him laugh in his face cause those cobras are quick but if you lose you who gives a shi* at least you gave him a run for his car cause it will be close.

yeah, I think i'm going to rip him out of the whole. I don't see him as being a very good driver. Don't think I'll want to do a high speed kickdown, seeing how those aren't an A4 LT-1's strong point. Oh, and there's a guy with a new GTO that i want to line 'em up with. I wouldn't be upset at all if the GTO beat me, but it would sure be nice if i got him by a little. Around here (Ohio country) we almost never race over a 1/4 mile

Dohc's pull harder then the LT1 up top, and are faster stock for stock....If he can drive it'll be a good run but chances are he probably cant and you'll crush him

tony, have you thought about drag radials like nitto's? maybe lca's (lower control arms) for extra traction.

Hell have no problem off the line...but from a roll and upper rpms the cobra will shine especially racing a auto.

Dont take too much offense by this but, if your in high school, be careful findin him on the street.
I have some friends around my age 25-35 that have been nailed for racing, and its no joke to the police.

Hes right, I see nothing wrong w/ a few highway punches w/ your buddies, but to go out and look for a race, especially from light to light your asking for trouble

I'm 21, most of the races around here happin out in the country on some nice flat, long roads. Barely ever any races in town. Just a few to show some civic drivers that they aren't fast.
