96formula Ram Air A4 Vs Ls1 Auto?

well my father just stepped into the Lt1 family with a 96 firebird formula ram air a4 WS6 car he just bought the other day. Its an awsome car, it has a borla catback (tuneable) some accel 300+ ignition box and its a factory GU5 car with selectable 1st gear as well. i was just wondering if he would have it good with the LS1s? i know i non ram air LS1 is rated at 305hp as well as the ram air LT1 cars such as my fathers. so would it make sence that he would be a good run on an LT1? what would his car be likle 1/4mile,0-60 times and such? im sure hed destroy my 94z and 94 formula so we arent going even to go there thanks for the input....mike

Its a high 13 low 14 second car...really no faster then any other LT1 w/ the same gearing, so he will likely not destroy your other LT1s, actually you have the same amount of chance of beating him as he has of beating you ....A good running LS1 will walk him hard in the higher rpms(there more like 350 hp at the flywheel, there greatly underated, Usually dynoin in the 290-320 rwhp area as opposed to the LT1 putting down 230-260ish in stock form). btw ws6/ss package is more of an apperance package then an actual horsepower adder, they usually dyno and run identical to there base models.

All that means is that it came w/ the performance axle which is the 323 gear ratio...all a4 ss/ws6's came w/ this package, the option was also available in the base models.

Regardless of what he has, race him. It will be close either way, and a lot of fun.

ya i cant wait to see the car run, he bought it out of OHIO last week (we live in buffalo) and he hasnt really driven it since he brought it home. He got got in the snow in it and just parked it in the driveway and hasnt started it since. Acctually when he bought the car it had factory 16s on it, but the RPO code ,and the little badge on the bumper that says WS6 so it should have 17s. ironically enough he just took off to jersey like 2hours ago to buy some WS6 wheels off a guy i met on cz28.com. ya so n e way i thought we where close with the #S ram airlt1s to ls1s but i guess not, what makes an Ls1 so much faster up top?

oohhh i see, so is it safe to assume that an lt1 would need a set of heads that flow as good as an ls1 to perform as good as one? gears (373) and a cai wouldnt do it ????

Essentially, the LS1 out performs the LT1 because it is a newer motor. Things such as lighter weight, better ignition system, and better heads makes the LS1 superior to the lt1. Hell,i drive an LT1 and i have seen what LS1 do to LT1's . However, dont count your fathers car out too quickly, seeing that from a dig he might pull a car on you because of the nature of the torque curve on an LT1 and he may keep that car up to about 80mph but after that, i give the nod to your car.

Yea,but then you start modding the LS1 and your back to square one. Both are pretty inexpensive nowadays as far as mods go.

Maybe some automatic cars, but not many...generally the LT1 needs all the bolt ons and some decent gearing to hang....even then the LS1 is likely to pull uptop especially 6spds

ya i guess ill admit defeat by the almighty LS1 before i even waste my gas lol, i thought i had somehting for a minute though, i mean if ya think about it roughly 14flat for most stock lt1s vs the 13.3s in the LS1s, im thinking 7tenths isnt to hard to come up with but as we all know it sounds good on paper, never quite works that way

Longtubes/CAI/Catback/Tune and better than 2.73 gears would put you into LS1 country. The races will be a bit more competative then.
