96 Z28 vs 04 Rx-8

How do you think I'll do? The rx-8 has cai, magnaflow exhaust, laser shifter. That's it. I hear they are fast and that the 1.3 engine has no pistons?

The rx-8 belongs to my dads friend. My dad asked him if he wanted to race for $500 and he said yea, we will race this weekend.

Re: 96 Z28 vs 04 Rx-8

My buddy raced one in his BMW Z3 and wasted it. I waste the BMW Z3, therefore your going to murder that slug of a car. I think the Honda could beat it too. Unless that laser shifter is connected to a N2O system he's done for.

What is with the people where you live? I am going to have to drive to Texas and race stupid people for money, lol.

Beware if he is betting that kind of money, I cant help but wonder if he is hiding something from you.

I get races here too, but all the ricers have already been broken in, they arent dumb enough to bet money. Glad to see you got the LT1. My buddy fell into the turbo 4-banger trap and swears by how great they are, but I beat him this last friday so I'll have to see if he still thinks that.

The RX8 I rode in was quick, but not fast. I think their biggest benefit is their weight distribution....pretty close to 50/50 which would probably benefit it more in the twisties. Straight line though, provided he's telling you the truth about mods, you shouldn't have a problem. Just get a good launch and good luck.

The rx-8 is a high 14 second car at best(stock). As long as your lt1 is in good running condition, you should have him by a few tenths.I did notice that your have 2.73 gears and an auto tranny so that might be a disadvantage to you.

Mags put the Rx8 at mid 14's around 96 mph. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

You are correct about them not having pistons, they are a rotary engine. They rev to like 9k before they start to redline.

Re: 96 Z28 vs 04 Rx-8

ok Well I raced the Rx-8 today and you guys were right, he had 150 shot of nitrious. I lost .But my dad told the guy to be fair. So we went again without him using his fart bottle. I got him in the start, at the end he was sort of catching up, I guess he started spraying, ended up beating him by 2 cars. I installed my new tranny mount today, while I was racing the guy, at about 80mph you could hear a mild vibration. Could it be the tranny mount? Its a poly mount.

Yeah its because of the mount, you should get an LS1/1LE mount they are made of rubber but they have a plate that keep it from separating. They are about 30 bucks or so on ebay. I think the polys suck

I raced one when my car just had the cat-back and I crushed him from a 60 roll. You should have no problem whatsoever. Good luck and keep it safe.

Re: 96 Z28 vs 04 Rx-8

I had no idea an RX8 would hold together under any amount of nitrous. A rotary engine is pretty fragile compared to piston engines.

Any time the first thing somebody tells you about a car is "it handles great", it means there's no power at all. What good is something that handles like a go-cart if it acclerates like one too?
