'96 Camaro SS vs. SRT4
'96 Camaro SS vs. SRT4
Well I just raced my buddy's '96 Z28 that had some bolt-ons for fun. I had a 200 pound passenger by the way. After racing I was on my way home and came up to a red light. After turning green, I kinda gave it a little gas (maybe 50% throttle) from the light. Little did I know behind me was an SRT4. Anyways he comes up beside me and revs it a few times and at this time I could hear the exhaust and BOV. I'm not sure what he had, but I could hear a loud BOV and his exhaust which both were louder than what I've heard from a stock one.
Anyways I asked if he wanted to run and he nodded. Three beeps from his horn and we're off from about 40 mph. From what I've heard, that is their sweet spot. With my 3.73s, it kinda is a little low for a roll but it worked out. He inched on me til I hit 3rd. From there I inched up on him and then I guess he shifted a few moments later I pulled hard on him from there and we let off at about 110ish from which I had a fender.
I know they can be fast but it was a fun and close race. Though they are not my personal favorite vehicle to modify, I do respect what they can put down. Anyways, here is a vid: Video

Nice Video. One question though...
Was this the same video as the run described above?
Reason I ask is that you look to be moving at a 10 mph speed, not 40.
Also he is dead even with you until the end where it appears he hits his brakes.
Good run nonetheless as those cars are respectfully fast.

I wouldn't say that we were really dead even until he hit his brakes because you can tell when he shifts and I start inching ahead, then he lets off. Either way, it was a pretty good adrenaline rush
Good kill. Those skittles aren't too bad. My friend got an black '05 SRT. Raced him from a stop and beat the sh*t out of him, of course this is the same guy that could only run a 14.9 at the track.
There is a guy in our car club that is a bone stock stage 2 Srt4 and is turning consistant mid 13.40s @ 105 mph. ( to get the mph up like that he may have upped his boost secretly) So with that said I would not laugh to hard or you may just miss the parade. Yes the little car IS a neon and its ugly as all getout, but for a 4 banger it gets the job done quite efficiently too. This is the same guy thats put many a stock LS1 and Stang drivers in their place. He also can drive the **** out of his car and knows quite a bit about the domestics in order to pull out wins. I must note that the LS1s he has taken down were all crappy inexperienced drivers. They are in our club as well.
