93 Formula vs. 2004 Rustang GT

So on my way home I come across a nice red mustang GT w/ it looked like a roach sp? bumper, and an exhaust, and it was a 5 speed. The guy was reving at me, as we had caught a red light. I looked over and he was a couple years younger then me (im 18) so he musta just got his license (so I assumed he prolly couldnt drive either). I yelled over to him that I would give him a 2 car head start, and he laghed. And told me "F-bodys are old, I will roast you". So I just chuckled and watched the light. I power breaked it to around 2500, and he brought his revs up as well. I let it rip off the light a tad too much, but I wanted some wheel spin so I could rub it in his face, once I caught about 10 feet later I ripped out of the hole so hard. He was even w/ me while I was spinning, and once caught I pulled hard away from him up until about 4-5 cars and then I stopped pulling and kept that distance for a few seconds but neared 95-100 where my car usually falls off(good ol' LT1). So I shut it down, and it just so happened we caught the next light and the kid wouldnt even look at me. Then I yelled "Mustangs are too old, I roasted you" and turned off. This made my whole week. Gotta love the cocky mustang drivers. I must say the rockers really helped bring 3rd gear alive some more, tho I think I may be getting some KR from them but cant afford to buy the cable to datalog.

Good kill, it should feel extra good to have beat him not only because he was driving a Mustang, but because most likely he wasn't the one that bought it. If he was real young and just got his license, he probably was handed that '04 by his parents. Which makes me sick.

I know what you mean, there are kids at school who drive mommies GTP or mommies mustang or mommies WRX, and they think its the ****. Then they dont understand why they lost since they have a mustang they think they are king of the road no matter what.

Makes you sick? Why is that? im not saying my dad bought my car, but he sure did help out. Exactly what is wrong with that? I never understood. Anyway, to each his own.

Great kill. I love to beat up on the mustangs rom time to time. Especially at the track. Then they see how their cars really stack up.

I've found that the ones that get their cars handed to them in high school are the really cocky ones. Not saying all are and I am not condeming help from the parents either. Sometimes it did make me mad that I had to bust my *** for what I had and these guys were having the car, insurance and on some occasions the mods paid for. But as you say to each his own, I feel that helped me out and got me ready to go out on my own.

Reason begin that when someone else pays for it you dont have the same value for it, as if you had worked you *** off and bought it yourself and can actually say "this is my car" not the car "My dad paide for half"

I bought my first car when I was 12 ($210.- including tax). I spend the next few summers fixing it up, getting it driveable, and having a friend paint it. I kept that car for about 10 years, and I took pretty good care of it over those years. There was a kid I know whose daddy bought him a Coronet ex drag car (the 440 was replaced with a 383), and before the school year was out, he had wrecked it. Did he care? Nope. He got his Daddy to buy him a Mustang GT. No idea what he did with that one...

Another fellow I knew had a 2.8 V6 Camaro. His parents spend $3,000 upgrading it to a 350/350. He then brought it to another fellow to put T-Tops in it (without his parent's permission). That guy cut the roof off, kept the car uncovered like that for weeks, and in the end, his parents sold the car for $1000 and told him to use his younger brother's Tempo. His brother's car was totaled within a week.

Meanwhile another fellow I know who saved up and bought a rusty 'cuda, cleaned it up, worked on it, and when he graduated had a really nice car that he took really good care of.

Re: 93 Formula vs. 2004 Rustang GT

I work my *** off in the summer, and some during the school year to make money.

I paid for my car $4500, all the mods to date and repairs around $1500. And I pay for the $600 insurance every 6 months. I also pay for all my gas. When you actually own your car and do all the work on it yourself, it feels real good and you are proud that it is your car. Otherwise when things are handed to you, obviously you dont have the same kind of feeling since you did 0 work to recieve it. I also never understood parents who bought their kids new cars after they wrecked their first one.

And dont give the excuse "I dont have the money to buy all that" anyone can get a job doing something you are just lazy and therfore shouldnt have nice things in the first place.

I have a problem with new drivers being handed nice cars by their parents. I guess it was the way I was brought up.

I had to earn things for myself. I earned money to buy myself a new computer, earned money to finally get the car that I've always wanted, etc etc....

I don't have a problem with parents helping out if it's necessary or if it's as a favor. I just don't like kids getting handed brand new cars for no reason when they're perfectly capable of getting a job and buying it on their own. Hell, my dad paid $1000 of the $1500 my '88 Celebrity cost. But of course that was five years ago and I wasn't exactly doing well in the financial area of my life at the time. And he paid for half of my Camaro ONLY because I didn't have the cash readily available but he is now paid back in full.

It makes me sick how these kids today are getting brand new Eclipses and RX-8's for Christmas and high school graduation presents. Or just because they just got their license. I was taught that I had to work for the things I want in life.

But to each his own.

EDIT: And I do indeed pay the $120/month insurance bill and the $35-45 in premium gas that my car takes. And I've paid for all my mods thus far by myself.

It does make me feel better that I've worked my *** off and did all my own crap to my own car.

Re: 93 Formula vs. 2004 Rustang GT

I earned money as well, put as much as $6200 to buy my part of the car, but i worked for my DAD on his farm for three summers, and christmas break for free. He wanted me to have a muscle car, and so did i. So i did work hard. but my dad helped me out like he should, coz he is my dad. Also, i didnt even get my car til i was almost 18. i know a kid whos mom bought him an 02 TA fully loaded and bought his upgrades. He takes excellent care of it. Just depends on the person.

Edit: I also bought all of my mods, and my dad helped me install them on our own. Good feeling.

OK, well good for him for taking care of it. But I just disagree with it and I find something wrong with parents buying their kids practically brand new cars without them having to open their wallets even once.

Re: 93 Formula vs. 2004 Rustang GT

I have a friend who got a '98 silverado 4x4 for his 16th b-day it was lifted, system, leather, ect.. It was a nice truck. He had the truck for two days when he rolled it spinning dounuts in a field. insurance gave him zippo for it. A week later he pulled up to school with a brand new silverado 4x4 fully loaded. Since he destroyed his first one within two days mommy bought him a new one from the dealership.
That tought him a valuable lesson.
