'67 Stingray and 99-03 Mustang GT
Well I was out riding last week, testing out the new engine a little bit and I saw a classic yellow Vette convertible going the other way, so since I was riding pointlessly anyway I figured I'd turn around and catch up to check it out.. Well I get close to it at a light and notice it's not only a classic vette, it's a C2 Stingray.. So after the light I got over into the fast lane and made sure he heard/noticed me..
He got along side me and gave me a little smirk, so I nailed it and then waited for him and he caught up.. Then I floored it and pulled away so I waited.. He finally floored it, so I gave him the kick and got on it just as his front tires were at my front fender.. I was in third gear, started around 80 mph.. I pulled dead even along side of him, and we both just looked over and stayed on it.. I shifted to fourth and he gained a couple inches but as soon as I was in fourth I pulled on him until I had my rear bumper to his front fender and we both slowed down because there was a red light coming up..
As we got closer to the light I noticed a county cop sitting at the light waiting to go across the road we were on.. He had to see and hear us.. A yellow Stingray and a red Z28 doing 110 side by side at wide open throttle tends to make a little noise.. But he just ignored us, we were slowed down by then anyway.. So as we stopped I said to the guy in the Vette, "Looks like we got lucky.." He didn't know what I was talking about so I nodded towards the cop and he just said "Woo Woo".. So I told him nice car and he said "Yeah, well it's just a little cruiser.."
He then proceeded to take off and weave in and out of traffic and take off down the road to show off.. At the next light, a guy in a truck next to me who saw the whole thing goes "Nice goin man, I think you pissed him off!"
I'm not sure if it was a 427 or not, but it sounded better than any 350 I've heard.. That's not enough to make an assumption on, but either way it was a fun race..
A couple days later, I caught a light with a 99-03 Mustang.. I'm guessing it was an '01, but not 100% sure. It looked a lot like a Bullitt, with no spoiler and removed GT badges.. But it had the same exhaust as the GT and it was grey (didn't offer grey on Bullitts). Anyway, when I pull up I look over and his friend in the passenger seat laughs at me and says "Oh man, I guess I better put on a seat belt." I inched forward as the light was about to change, and as I brought the RPMs up a little they kept laughing at me.. When the light changed I spun a little then hooked, and he never had a prayer.... I pulled 4 or 5 cars on him easily, maybe more, then slowed down to around 75 mph.. He tried to do a fly by, but I nailed it when he was along side and walked him again.. He then waved and turned off, while I took the opportunity to have a turn laughing..
Moral of the story, never smirk or laugh at an F-body.
