03 cobra race

last night I raced an 03 cobra with intake exhaust and pulleys. the race was dead even until about 100 mph when he pullued a bout a car on me. The only mods I've done to my car are magnaflow cat-back, slp lid, and free ram-air. There was an ls6 manifold already on the car when I bought it. Does that seem right though. Do u think there might be some other mods that I don't know about like maybe a cam or gears.

sounds about right, the mustang weighs a ton and they have around 375hp..... easy to keep up with when you have a few bolt-on's

he shouldve left you behind big time if those are the only mods you have.those cars make sick power when a pulley is added.

i'd think that they'd pull pretty hard on you, but power to you for keeping up

Does the exhaust sound lopey at all? If so it might have a cam, I would think with a new intake theres a fairly good chance theres a cam.

well.....from what ive seen, the stock 03 cobras are dynoed at around 350 to the wheels.......add intake, exhaust, and a pulley and they probably push 375-380 to the wheels. they are heavy though.....ive kept up nose to nose with a stock 03 with my lid, catback, and ftra. man, if they had only put a supercharger on the ls1....think about the kinda power we could make.....and thats before any mods i tell ya man, the ls1 engine is nothing to mess with....its a tough bitch!!!

they make more like 360-370 stock and if you add a pulley, ehx, intake thats well over 400rwhp.probably around 450.wont take much more from there to get to 500.

they can be beat but you better know what your up against.

Hard to tell for sure as anything can happen in a street race. If the 03 had the mods you describe he could be anywhere from 430-480 rwhp and equal torque. If he didn't spin he should have pulled you very hard as he probably traps 10 mph higher. Bone stock 03's tend to fall in the 350-380 rwhp range. With Intake and exhaust mods they usually pull low 400s and with a pulley swap will push 440 rwhp plus. Now with ported stock blowers alot are making 500 rwhp. However they are heavy especially the Verts and they are very hard to lauch especially on street tires. I raced a stock one when I dynoed 366 rwhp @ 351 rwtq with 1 280 lbs passenger in my car and I pulled him once with him doing the same.

The 03 Cobras benefit hugely with just basic bolt ons and a pulley provided you tune one after the pulley change. A smaller pulley in one I think is good for another 2-3psi maybe and that combined with bolt ons should push one to the 400rwhp mark or past. I remember reading an article about one, and with the stock 3.55's you can run 11's with just basic bolt ons, smaller pulley, and tuning if you know how to drive a DOHC 4.6 with a manual (they all bog some).

I would have to say he had exhaust and no pullies.

I have been to several different dyno days for Cobras. Good friends of mine have one.

Exhaust and intake only Cobras put 400+ to the wheels. Stock they generally dyno 370ish rwhp. I have seen as high as 383rwhp SAE hp from a stock(down to the paper air filter) 03 Cobra. It had about 3-4k miles on it so it had some break-in time.

The highest I have seen for intake and exhaust 03 Cobras is 422rwhp. This car had a catback exhaust and cold air intake.

LS1 engine is not made for boost. Without any internal motor mods you will get no where close to the power of the 03 Cobras when going boost to boost. Now if you spend money and beef up the internals than anything is possible.

LS1s like Nitrous alot.

good kill bro, a stock 03 cobra coupe weight - 3,665 lbs. Convertible - 3,780 lbs. 03 cobras with stock blowers produce 390hp at flywheel according to ford , 450hp at flywheel is more realistic, but i think insurance companies doesn't like this number

now I know for a fact that if you upgrade the fuel system, fuel pressure regulator and stuff ,it will produce over 500 hp to the wheels. (i know this cause i saw it at the mustang performance shop where i'm taking my car for future mods )

If you upgrade either the blower pulley to produce more boost or upgrade the blower itself, you are sitting on anywhere from 600-800 hp.

not everyone has the money to do it, but is possible, there are some of them out there, and actually i think we'll see more 600 hp cobras out there cause svt won't make any for 2004. i expect to see a factory 500 hp svt cobra maybe in 2005

here is an example, of course you cannot expect to have a good launch on street tires with this baby

I wouldn't bet on it, there's no way Ford would make a Cobra with 500hp just yet, seeing as how the up-coming flagship GT is making that power. With all the hype and time put into the GT, they wouldn't dare have a lower model car with the same amount of power. My estimate would be in the lower 400's to compete with the C6 Corvette.

I think we will have a 500hp Cobra.

I think when the GT hits the streets it will be underrated just as the 03 Cobra. I think it will put like 480 to the ground. And possibly the new Cobra will be rated right or rated at like 450hp and put down like 420-430. Because the Cobra right now is about a 430hp car with a %15 drivetrain loss.

Also you will have to realize that Ford is not trying to make money off the GT as Chevy is with the Vette and why the f-bod would never have near the hp of the Z06. It is a promo like thing to boost the companies name and sales. So I see no problem with them selling the cars at the same hp.
