Okay well my rotors are warped and there too thin to be shaven so I have to get all new rotors pads and what not. For some premium package there charging me around $650 rotors, pads, fluids, labor. But i saw on ebay new rotors and pads for like $220. im thinking the quality on parts on ebay are bad. I trust the place where im getting my brakes done theyve always taken care of my car but what do you guys think?

 

Do it yourself if you can. spend $20 on a how-to manual for the car and go to town. Brakes for these cars are very straighforward being they are all-wheel disc so there's no need to adjust anything once you get everything in place. When I did mine I prob spent $150 total in parts with standard Delco rotors and some better pads. It was actually cheaper to get new rotors than to turn the old ones. But if you're set on getting it done or don't have the space or time then yes, $650 sounds pretty standard for an all-around brake job.

 

years ago i was charged $500 for a brake job on an econoline van. never again. i do my own brakes now. it isn't really that hard. i had a friend show me the ropes which really helped. a lot of it is just confidence.

 

Brand new front rotors can be had for as low as $30 a piece from Autozone or Kragen (they are just fine, I've had many years out of my set and run grippy pads), and a good set of pads isn't much either.

Your problem is most likely only the front rotors as well. If you think you can do it, you can complete the job for under $150. It only takes about a half hour a side once you get the car up on jacks too. If you are interested in learning about working on your own car, the brakes is an easy and straightforward place to begin your experience.

 

Brakes on our cars are really easy as mentioned.

I recently tried the Ebay cross drilled, slotted, zinced rotors with ceramic pads and have been very pleased, about 4 months on them now. Powerstop was the brand and I believe brakemotive was the vendor.

 

do it yourself. no need in throwing 2-300 away.

 

What kind of car do you have?

$650 does seem a little high. Assuming that they are using good quality stock type replacement parts.

If you're not going to do the work yourself though, you can't expect a shop to do the work for free. (Not saying that you expect that)

Is it worth $650? Being able to come to a controlled stop is worth every penny of $650...
