Re: wich brake mods for 97 Z28?

The only brake mod i've done is switching to the 98+ front brake setup. I got it for $165 shipped and came with everything i needed. It ended up costing me a total of $200 by the time i bought paint, brake cleaner, Camaro Caliper decals, and brake fluid. It also took me 4hrs to install and i could probably do the swap in about 2-2.5 hrs. In the end i got dual piston calipers, 12inch rotors, and i believe more pad surfacearea vs the LT1's single piston calipers and 11 rotors all for $200. One of the best bang for the buck mods i've done.

I second that suggestion. You will see a night and day difference.

Re: wich brake mods for 97 Z28?

I've upgraded my front brakes to LS1 brakes and installed C5 13" rotors. There are many adaptor brackets available for this but I modified my stock ones myself. I also installed Powerslot vented rotors front and rear and changed the pads to Hawk HPS pads. After doing this the braking was awsome but the balance was wrong. So I disasembled the stock metering block to remove the proportioning valve and installed an aftermarket adjustable valve after the mastercylinder.

My car stops stupid fast and has next to no brake fade when the brakes are hot. Eventually I will upgrade the rear brakes to 13", why??? Because I can.

I've heard of ABS issues when upgrading to ls1 parts. Truth? or rumor? If it's truth, what do I need to do to resolve it. It sounds like new calipers and/or aftermarket rotors is the way to go.

No ABS problems here.

where did you order that set-up from? what about rears? and aftermarket rotors? I assume you would buy rotors from the newer car.

Re: wich brake mods for 97 Z28?

I have a question for those of you who have done the swap. What did you do with the brake hoses? I know you need to use the LS1 brake hoses, but I've also heard that you need to modify the bracket where the hose attaches to the hard line and also bend the hard line. Can somebody shed some light on this? None of the how-to's I've seen online address this. I'm going to pick up a set of 99 brakes on Friday and I hope to do the swap soon.

Thanks!

To the poster of this thread i would just buy a set up off ebay. Alot of the time people sell them completely installed with everything you need. You can get all the aftermarket rotors and pads at most of the vendors on this site.

Lee, I've heard you can use the LT1 brake lines if you want but i used the LS1 lines as they are longer. The brake line mounting bracket mounts perpendicular to the body. I just grabbed the bracket with my vice grips and bent it down. You want it to bend close to the body not bend in the middle. If it bends in the middle it might mess up the shape of the hole then the line wont fit. You might not need to bend the brake line bracket i just did it to increase the amt of line travel. Also The brake line bracket has a hole in it like this O- the little dash mark is a "key way" that a part of the brake line drops into to keep it from twisting. The LS1 brake line has a diff key way on the line so it doesn't quite fit the hole. I got the LS1 to kind of fit through the bracket at an angle then i drove on the C clip keeper with a hammer. I hope that makes sense.

Yup, I did the swap on a friends car, it was a true bolt on and worked perfectly. The rears had been converted to LS1 brakes as well. It's a great swap.
