What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap
Hi all,
Well, I think I got the rear brakes almost dialed in, so I am now going to address the front brakes.
When I did the LS1 brake swap, I just bent the LT1 bracket down and reused the LT1 hose. The car is lowered, so it works.
But now I want to do it right.
I want to bleed the brakes, and replace the hoses and put speed bleeders in.
Which hoses do I use? I have read in one place the 97-2004 Corvette hoses are a little longer and work for this. I just bought 98-02 Camaro lines, and they do not work. I am not going to bend the hard brake lines for this..
I was looking at dorman # H620031 hoses.. will these work? I don't want expensive stainless steel braided ones as this is a driver, not an autocross car and it's just not needed.
For the speed bleeder, I bought dorman # 12706. The thread is correct, and the overall length is correct, but the threads are not long enough. Does Dorman make a speed bleeder that actually fits the LS1 calipers? Or is there another brand that works?
Thanks for the help!

Re: LT1 to LS1 brake swap brake lines
I had mine custom made - one end is LS1 - the other LT1.
Goodridge G-Stop p/n 12217-SPL (special)
I know they still have the info as another 96 owner just get a set in Sept 2017.

Re: LT1 to LS1 brake swap brake lines
I used the C5 kit from Russel and had great fitment $99: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-692190/overview/
Re: What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap
You have another thread on this, please try to keep your questions in one place. See my response in the other thread, I have the same swap, and had issues with both the LT and LS length lines. The C5 lines fit great, see my 1997 Project thread for pictures.
Re: What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap

Thank you for the feedback though. It looks like the C5 front brake lines are the way to go.. so I will look at getting some of those.
These stock LS1 Camaro ones do not work.. period. haha.
Re: What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap
Hopefully Summit Racing will let me swap them out.
I'll probably get the Powerstop powder-coated red calipers like I did for the rear too and just be done with it.
What speed bleeders actually work with these calipers?

Re: What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap
Is the Russell 639560 the correct speed bleeder? It appears to be a bit longer than the Dorman 12706. That one didn't have long enough threads.
Re: What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap
I can't speak to the bleeder valves, as I didn't change that portion of my system. I would just hit up Summit via telephone or chat and tell them what you have.
Re: What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap
I moved the relevant posts over from the other thread. It causes confusion whe the same/similar questions are posted in two different threads.
Re: What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap
I ordered the Russell speed bleeders referenced above, as well as the C5 brake hoses. When they all arrive and I can spend time trying again, I will post results.
Re: What brake hose and speed bleeder front LT1 to LS1 brake swap
Great news, the Russell Speed Bleeders worked in the LS1 calipers. Further, the C5 front hoses worked as well.
I had to notch out the Firebird bracket that holds the hose where it screws into the hard line, but it was very easy with a file.
Now it all plays well together, and I have speed bleeders and new hoses installed.
I also bled the entire system again.
I am curious though, with all the other vehicles I have bled the brakes on, the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor when you open the bleeder. This car didn't do that. It seems to catch about 3/4 of the way to the floor. I know every vehicle is different.. is this common on the LT1 4th gen cars?
Even after bleeding, it doesn't seem to go all the way to the floor.
Braking performance is great on the street. I went and tested it and it stopped quickly. This is just something I noticed and am wondering if it is an issue.

Did you use the bleeders on the ABS motor pack, both before bleeding the calipers, and after, as recommended by the factory service manual. See Section 5E1, Page 171. Free 1995 manual download if you don't have one:
