vibration from bad balance?
vibration from bad balance?
I recently had a bunch of work done to my 2000 SS after an accident. The car slide of the road during the last snow storm and damaged the subframe and front right lower control arm. I put new 17" ZR1s and new BFG KDW 275/45s on all four corners. I had STS do the mount and balance. A very reputable NJ shop replaced the subframe (not SFC) and control arm. They inspected the wheel hub and said it looked OK, but might need to be replaced in the future. The alignment was set by another shop that the last shop sends their cars to. The car now has a vibration that seems to come from the gas pedal/floor board at low speeds, and seems to go away at higher speeds. Alignment is fine, goes straight down the road. There is very little to no vibration coming through the steering wheel. I didn't have this problem before all this work was done. Does it sound like a bad tire balance, or something more serious like a driveshaft out of balance (possibly due to the accident?) Thanks
Re: vibration from bad balance?
i would check out the driveshaft. if you got new wheels and alighnment and those are good che the driveshaft. you can try raising it in the air and rotating te rear wheels to see the driveshaft spin. should be balanced. i had a problem like that when i hit a curb and did every thing you did and even tried getting the driveshaft balanced with no help. replaced it and went away..
hope this helps

Re: vibration from bad balance?
Yea if your steering wheel isn't vibrating it's not front balance... and since the vibration is coming from near the front I'd look at the driveshaft, After that maybe motor and tranny mounts.
Re: vibration from bad balance?
look at your mirror when it vibrates.....this is very important. if it's vibrating in a circular motion it's the driveshaft. if it's vibrating up and down, it's one of the front wheels, and if it's vibrating left and right it's the rear wheels.
