Turning off the ABS INOP lamp (96 Z28)

After having installed my abs delete kit from SMJ and driving around with the ABS inop lamp I finally got around to turning it off.
I had also removed the EBCM thinking this was going to keep the ABS INOP lamp off, but no!

Due to the fact that my car is a 96 Camaro and the instrument cluster is a bitch to remove without breaking the dash cover, lamp removal was not an option.

Well it turned out real easy. Just locate terminal No A7 fom the EBCM C1 connector (24 terminal connector) and ground it with a small wire.

To save a few pounds up front and make some room in the engine bay.
Its quite common for a dedicated drag race car.

There is an ABS box under the dash and you can ground one of those wires going to it to turn off the light. I will check my car tomorrow to see what color the wire is.

Re: Turning off the ABS INOP lamp (96 Z28)

I just did this on a 94 Z28. I did not see an abs box under the dash, or the 24 pin connector mentioned. However, getting to the light bulb itself wasn't awful.

1.disconnect battery
2. remove the panel under the steering wheel (2 phillips screws, 2 9/32" screws)
3. remove the panel for the stereo (5 9/32" screws, two on the left, two behind the glove box panel
4.remove the curved dashboard panel above the steering wheel (3 9/32" screws). Two of the screws are in the front of the panel, towards front of car, and you have to pry the dashboard cover up to get to them. But it is held by velcro and just pops back down when done. you don't have to remove the headlight switches or wiring from the dashboard panel-- you can move it up and left to get it out of the way, exposing the instrument cluster.
5. remove instrument cluster (4 9/32" screws). pull it forward/up, turn it upside-down.
6. remove plastic panel, (6 7mm screws), now all the bulbs and circuitboard are exposed.
7. remove offending bulbs. the ABS bulb is the lowest on on the panel(or when upside-down, the highest one.

Assembly opposite of disassembly. the whole process took me about an hour. try not to drop any ratchets in the dash.
