TQ Arm to Trans Stress Q...

How much stress does the TQ Arm put on the tail shaft of the transmission?

I guess I'm looking for an excuse to buy more suspension parts.. This is an expensive transmission, I don't want too much stress on that tail shaft. I have a BMR Chromoly ADJ TA, T56 Rebuilds 4B, and a Poly Trans Mount.

Was thinking about getting the BMR TA relocation bracket. As seen below.

I was thinking about getting the same bracket. I’m currently running a Random Tech torque arm with poly mount, and a poly trans mount. Has anyone broken the tail shaft of their trans by running a stock location torque arm?

I decided to run an aftermarket BMR adjustable Torque Arm with a UMI relocation bracket. I did not want to have ground clearance issues with my car being lowered with headers.

I like the UMI unit a little better, to me it's Beefier.

I broke my tailshaft in 2005 using a Spohn stock style TA...Split the tailshaft in half...Since switched to a Spohn cross brace mounted style with 2 DS loops...No issues now...

I did have a bushing go bad on the back of my stocker. It was replaced w/ the rebuild. I think it may have been from beating the stocker.

I don't want to risk tearing up an expensive tranny. -It wasn't that pricey, I just don't want to deal w/ trans problems again.

^ I don't think I'll be up for buying another TA for a while. Expensive and all... Not high on the list of priorities right now either. It'll be on the list as the power increases..

I might do the pictured one, tho.

My advice is that if you're going to buy a TA get a tunnel brace style or one that gets the stress off of the trans...If not, then just get the poly bushing for the stocker...Imho, the stock TA flexes just enough to absorb a bit of the stress on the trans...Going to a stronger aftermarket style which mounts in the stock (trans) location places all of the stress on the tail shaft because the aftermarket TAs are stronger and less apt to flex like the stockers...Just my take on the matter having gone thru a split tailshaft...

^I already have a BMR adj TA. I was thinking of getting the 'tunnel' relocation brace.

mdacton- THat Spohn Tunnel TA is $350, not too bad actually. THe BMR Xtreme TA is $660! I am trying to do all my suspension in BMR. I understand what you are saying. I mean, I just won't spend $300 someodd $$ on another TA when I could spend it to get more power out of what I have. I could use a cam or UD pulleys.

I like the Spohn, because it also has a DS loop.. ... Saves me $$$ on the separate DS loop. From what I've read, BMR and Spohn are about equal. BMR may have less ground clearance on lets say the tunnel brace. If I could go back 4 years, I would have settled on Spohn for the complete suspension. Some reasons: Price and minor ground clearance concerns. I'm lowered, so I have enough GC issues as it is.

I have a question. How much more noticeable is noise/vibration with a rod end vs. a poly bushing on the torque arm? Is the benefit worth it?

I already have rod end lower control arms, so I cant see there being much more noticeable rear end noise.

If you have rod end LCAs, I think you answered your own question.

Yeah lol, but Im trying to figure if its going to produce that much more noise(as the LCA's did) or if it wont be noticeable considering I already have rod end LCA's connected from the same point(rear end) to the chassis? I didnt notice much increase in noise when I went with a rod end PHB, but with the LCA's I can even hear the rear brakes being applied.

Its not my DD, so noise isnt a top concern. But there comes a point where too much is a issue on a street driven car.
