Torque arm weight - Mild Steel vs Chrome Moly

Like the title says, what is the weight savings from going with a chrome moly torque arm over mild steel?

Has anyone actually weighed each?

I've never measured, but the weight difference is negligible. Both are steel alloys. Chrome-moly contains only a very small amount chromium and molybdenum as part of the alloy make-up (less than 1% of each), the rest of the metallic make-up is pretty much the same.

errr...i appreciate the well-thought-out reply! you definitely know your stuff, however, i earned a "D" in high school chemistry LOL. What kind of weight difference constitutes negligible?

If they are using the same size diameter and wall thickness tubing they will weigh the same. The only difference is if the chrome-moly was not stress relieved and heat treated after welding you will have a very expensive part which weighs the same, has the same strength, but will have brittle weld areas compared to the mild steel.

I think it was only like 5-10lbs anyway.
