Torque arm question

Well, I just ripped the torque arm off my tranny, so looks like I'm in the market for a crossmember-mounted torque arm. I've got my eye on the Spohn one, but I've run into a problem.

They offer two versions, one for shorty headers, one for long tubes. I have stock manifolds, but plan on putting some ARH long tubes on fairly soon. Do the long-tube version torque arms just have extra clearance, or will it not fit with my exhaust in its current state?

Thanks in advance.

The long tube version just has a dip in the crossmember brace to clear the off-road y-pipe. It shouldn't be an issue with a stock setup.

...adding to that, check with Steve Spohn about header clearances with his TAs...My Kooks LTs cleared my TA designed for shorties...Some headers tuck up higher and will clear that style TA...I had to switch to the design for LTs to clear my TDs and an X pipe and it hits everything...Its a great piece, you just have to watch steep inclines, etc...

I'm planning on going to long tubes fairly soon, so go with the long tube version? I'm getting american racing headers if that matters.

BMR makes a relocation bracket that works good. Do you have an aftermarket TA? If you do, you can just get the relocation bracket from BMR and save yourself some cash.

I'm not familar with that brand header. You can always email the Spohn tech support. They have always been helpful in the past in answering questions for me.

i have the spohn chassis mount for LT's....it has a lower dip on passenger side for the y-pipe to clear lower lt's....basically it dips lower so you loose a little ground clearance...if you drive the car to try and not scrape the air dam you probably wont scrape the TA...at least in my experience with it

My Spohn scrapes over speed bumps. You'll have to be careful not to rip the front mount out of the floor mounts.

Same here, my driveway is on a 45 degree incline. I have to pull the car out at just the right angle in order not to drag the cross brace. I dragged it a few times in the beginning, now I have finally gotten used pulling it out that certain way.

yeah its kind of like driving a car thats lowered or has ground effects....its a little different at first and you'll probably scrape, but you'll get the hang of it and learn how to drive over bumps and steep driveways at the right angle to not scrape....my exhaust goes under the crossmember on the driverside and i don't scrape even that anymore

I'm not worried, since my car has ground fx anyway. Plus, my 96 was lowered all to hell, which taught me how to drive around in one. I ended up getting the UMI version with their 3-point SFCs.
