Re: Sway Bars

BMR Is am\n awesome company that makes relaible parts..Eibach is good too... Not sure on the hollow/solid choices tho. I'm going to have to pay attention to this one, also..

Re: Sway Bars

Hollow front, don't bother with solid, too much weight little stiffness increase.

Stock rear bar.

I would contact Sam Strano, and run his 35mm or 1LE 32mm.

1LE was $25.00 on ebay from gryhead.

1LE refers to GM's version of the Autocross. It was an option on some cars. As far as solid, little increase is not a true statement. Ask about the hollow. There has been a big debate on which one is better, a 35 hollow or a 32 solid. Given all things the same except dimensions, lets look at the engineering of them.

The equation for angular displacement rigidity is:

Theta = (T*L)/(G*J)

Theta - angular displacement
T - torque
L - Length of the bar
G - refers to the type of the material
J - Polar moment of inertia

For a cylinder J is as follows

J = (pi/32)*(OD^4 - ID^4)

So if everyting is the same but the dimensions then G, L, T, and theta are constant, so we can effectivley take them out of the equation. Basically what I'm trying to say a solid 32 bar is equal to a hollow 35 bar is the ID of that bar is 25.93 mm. So ask the company that makes the 35 what the ID is and then make your decision. Hope this clears some things up.

Edit for spelling errors.

Re: Sway Bars

It's in my Engineering design book. If you want any more about it just hit me up.

FYI,

32mm 1LE bar is hollow not solid, the factory Z28 30mm bar is hollow not solid. Only the rear bars 19 & 21 mm are solid.

If I use your figure of 25.93 for the inside dia of a hollow 35mm bar.
The x-sec area of the bar is 748.2mm^2

A solid 32mm bar has a x-sec area of 962.12mm^2.

So a 35mm hollow bar with the same stiffness as a 32mm solid bar is 28.6% lighter.

I don't think that people want to hang anymore weight on the front of their cars.

I think the strano 35mm bar has a 6mm wall but I havent measured it myself, so it would be stiffer than the solid 32mm and still much lighter.

I was refering to my BMR solid 32 mm bar.
