Stupid Brake Question
Stupid Brake Question
The last brake pads I bought came with a tube of brake lube. I had never used this before, so I did not use it this time. Now my brakes squeal even though the pads are brand new. What is that stuff supposed to do, and how do you use it on the brakes?
It's weird that no matter how long you've been into cars, there are always little questions like this that pop up! Thanks.

Re: Stupid Brake Question
Brake pad treatment usually isnt labeled as a lubricant. The stuff you put on the back of pads is usually a tacky substance, thickens as it dries. If what you have feels more like a lubricant such as grease, then what it is for is the caliper slide bolts. The bolts that the caliper actually floats on need to be lubricated. these bolts not being lubricated properly will cause brakes to squeak. Regardless of what you have, lubricate these bolts regardless, but do not use bearing grease. Use dielectric grease or what is labeled as caliper slide grease.
Re: Stupid Brake Question
Nor is it labeled as "treatment". Caliper-pin grease usually only comes with replacement pins, guides, or new calipers. Anti-Squeal is the #1 included item. But yes, like 5.0 said, lube for the pin guides does sometimes come with pads.
I guess the next question is, what does it say on the container 12sec?

Re: Stupid Brake Question
Haha. Wouldn't know. I threw it away with my old pads because I knew that if I ended up needing it, I can buy some somewhere. It came in a little plastic tube, and it appeared to be a clear color.
