"strut" brace install

Ok, so I got a new strut brace... how in the heck do I take the screws off? I tried everything, I even broke the wrench, I tried for 2 hours and all I got was a bruised forearm and a cut hand... niether of the 4 nuts would move not even a 1/32ths of an inch. How do you do it?

I don't know what to tell you besides "good tools and strong arms"...and maybe some penetrating oil . I don't remember them being that much trouble.

I tried oiling them but no give... It's weird cuz I had never seen a craftsman tool break.

I have...Many times... Mostly my fault though...

I would say spray it really good with penetrating oil let it sit over night then try it the next day. If not use a impact on it.

Re: "strut" brace install

I put a BMR STB on my 2002 Z28, and the nuts came right off with no problems. They're not even on all that tight.

Are you sure you're turning them counter-clockwise?

I dont see how you could possibly be having problems like that. Try some PB Blaster and let it soak for a day or two, it has worked miracles for me.

Mine came off very easily. Make sure you're going the right way. If you are and still have trouble try soaking them in PB Blaster over night.

Re: "strut" brace install

When you go to reinstall the bolts after getting the brace on, you may want to keep in mind that they shouldn't be torqued on that hard. 37 ft/lbs -which isn't much!

Re: "strut" brace install

I don't know my rk sport stb has been a hassle for me too. I did'nt put it on tight and it made some weird sounds up front. I tightend it more and it still sound funny just not as bad. but I did progresive rate springs and billstein hd shocks at the same time. Still wonder what could it be?

Re: "strut" brace install

I tried the air gun, now I basically have a round nut that wont budge...I tried everything, what now? I'm afraid to use the impact gun cuz that may damage the bolt and I'd have to replace the whole shock base.

Are you going the right direction? Counter clockwise loosens.
